Hello World! Happy Saturday! Well the Master Bedroom has been painted. But, that is about all that has happened in there. Let me show you where we are and where we have been.
The ceiling has been painted, walls have been painted, and the trim got a facelift as well.
This is with two coats of primer on the walls and nothing on the trim.
Again, primer on the walls and nothing on the trim.
This is what I started with. Deep yellow on the ceiling and a dark green on the walls.
The trim is an almond color. This room looks really bright in the pictures, but let me tell you it was not. The realtor hired a good photographer who used a photo editor.
Below is a side by side comparison of the paint colors.
The doors still need to be painted to match the trim. It’s on my huge to do list.
And, just for fun. I thought I would show you what I wake up to.
I love waking up and seeing this pretty house and yard across the street from us.
The paint colors are as follows:
On the walls and ceiling: Kilz Primer
On the walls: Benjamin Moore – Shaker Beige (which is a Historical Color), Eggshell finish.
On the trim: Benjamin Moore – White Opulence, Semi-Gloss finish.
On the ceiling: Benjamin Moore – Ceiling White
The process was two coats of primer on the walls, one coat of primer on the ceiling, two coats of Shaker Beige on the walls, one coat of Ceiling White on the ceiling, and two coats of White Opulence on the trim.
Let me encourage you that if you have a room to paint and you are not sure when the last time it was painted or the quality of the paint used, do put a coat of primer on. Especially if you are going from a dark color to a light color. Trust me, you would rather have the wall soak up the primer than your good paint. The master bedroom had not been painted since 1990 and I was so happy I put two coats of primer on. If I hadn’t, I would have had a horrible paint job.
Primer is specifically formulated to seal unfinished or finished surfaces and make sure the top coat of paint adheres to the surface to create the best-looking, longest lasting finish. You’re wasting your time, paint and, of course, money if that expensive top coat begins peeling or soaks unevenly into the surface because you didn’t use a primer.
So, by all means, prime away!
Okay, I’m off my soap box. I’m off to the closet to paint.

Your color looks so pretty and I sure do agree about using primer! Even some lighter colors will bleed through. I'm so happy for you and your new house. Looks like you live in a beautiful neighborhood! We're moving soon too to New York and we'll be doing the same thing – painting!

It looks lovely, Kathryn! I don't know why I'm surprised to hear you say the room wasn't as bright as it appears in the photos because I wind up having to "brighten" some of my pictures when I'm doing a post showing a room. I just don't have enough light in our condo {it would seem} to portray the rooms accurately in a picture. And, I have a light beige color on our walls! I need to paint our master bathroom's WC. I know I need to get on it, but I'm dreading doing the ceiling. What with a fan/light fixture combo and another light over the shower area, then the shower itself it seems like a lot of prep.

oh i bet the room is a ton brighter now! We had the same in a room here – dark color that just sucked all the light from the room. We left a small accent wall and painted the rest a similar color to yours, so much better now! Love your view!

I love that you used a historical color- I always gravitate to those! I totally agree about priming too. Our home is the first house we've owned and so I've learned a lot in the process. I've painted it all myself and you can tell the places I didn't put the effort in prepping first in the earlier painted areas. I did a mural later on our nursery ceiling and I found some paint by Valspar that had primer in it already which was huge since I was painting upside down and who wants to do extra coats like that!? It came out so cute since it looks like the night sky with glow in the dark stars. I love seeing transformations like yours! Thanks for linking up today!
