Hello World! Welcome Friends! If you’re lucky enough to have a garden at home, it’s so worth making the most of it. During the warmer months you have this additional space that you can utilize, hosting friends, eating outdoors, sunbathing and relaxing. However, if your garden is overlooked you might find you use it less often than you’d like. Here are some options for gaining a bit of privacy and making use of your garden.
Fencing
Fencing is the obvious solution to most garden privacy issues, if you go with a tall enough fence you’ll prevent being looked in on by neighbors and it makes your garden look smart and cohesive. If you don’t love the idea of repainting lots of wooden fence panels every year go with vinyl, they’re waterproof and will pretty much last forever with no maintenance. They’re less expensive than you might think as well, just look into vinyl fence installation cost. Some fences enable you to add a trellis to the top and extend the height even further if this is something your garden needs.
Hedges or Bushes
Trees look fantastic in the garden, they bring life and foliage and are great at giving you privacy. If you’re overlooked at the bottom of your garden, planting trees along the bottom border near to the fence would be your best bet. Purchase a fast growing variety, or spend a little more buying a larger tree that’s been grown in a pot- that way you can put it straight in and enjoy the privacy immediately. Another thing to consider with trees and privacy is the type of tree you buy. If you’re only bothered about privacy during the spring and summer when you’re actually sat outside then just about any variety will work. If you want privacy all year long then you need an evergreen which isn’t going to shed its leaves.
Gazebo or Pergola
Adding a structure like a gazebos or a pergola can definitely add more privacy to an area of the garden. You could add hanging baskets, bamboo screening and climbing plants like ivy and roses to provide more coverage, this looks great too and provides plenty of visual interest. Add a seating area or table inside and you have peace of mind that you’re out of the direct view of neighbors when you’re sitting there.
Blind Spots
If your garden is overlooked from above, you might find there are some areas that are naturally in a bit of a ‘blind spot’ and therefore give you more privacy. If you’re overlooked from the top windows in your neighbors houses on each side, it’s often difficult to see the area right next to the house. While they tend to be shadier, then can make great areas to sit and eat and relax where you’re more secluded.
