Hello World! Welcome Friends! Moving into a new home can be stressful. While you want to display your possessions and show off your style with the right décor, you don’t want to overdo it. This is where minimalist design tips can be invaluable. Whether you are buying new construction or moving into a new-to-you property, the tips here will help you make the most of your new space and be comfortable faster.
Keep Busy Surfaces Empty
It’s not a good idea to add decorations or another décor to surfaces you use every day. If you do, you will have to continue clearing the items off just to use the space, then replace them again. If you don’t keep up with putting the decorations back, they will clutter up another area of your house.
Try to learn to embrace the appeal of an empty counter. For example, keep the kitchen island clear if you use it for eating, doing homework, and more. Other places to keep free of clutter include the coffee table and dining room table.
You should also curb the urge to over-decorate your furniture. While you may love how a lot of pillows look on the couch, if you must keep putting them on the floor just to sit down, then put them back when you get up, you should just leave them out altogether.
Leave Empty Space Around Your House
You should also resist the urge to fill up every corner with something. Leave additional space for activities with your family or alone. For example, playing a board game, doing an exercise video, or just watching a movie on the floor. You should have space available without having to move a ton of furniture out of the way.
If you fill every corner with stuff, it means you are pushing your family out just for more stuff. Try to leave a single corner or wall open, as this will help create balance.
Put Plenty of Bins in Your Space
Make sure you invest in quality bins and keep them throughout your house. Try putting your donation, recycling, and trash bins in various rooms rather than having a single location where you keep them all. You can also use bins in the bathroom for toilet paper or bedrooms for shoes and “found” items.
Choose Functional Furniture
It’s important to find furniture you like the look of, but equally important to choose functional pieces. Most furniture gets a lot of use and sometimes abuse. If you have pets and kids, you shouldn’t choose a color or material you will be concerned about.
Creating a Well-Designed, Organized, and Functional Space
These tips will help you create a comfortable space that is also functional and appealing. Use these tips for any home you are moving into, or to revamp the design of your current house. Chances are, you will love the outcome you achieve and want to show it off to everyone who visits.
