Hello World! Welcome Friends! One of the reasons we love luxury hotels so much is that they make their bedrooms and specifically, their beds look expensive. In fact, the hotel probably didn’t spend a whole lot more per room on bed decor than you have, but the designers know the tricks to making it appear as if they spent a fortune. So no matter if you purchased the best mattress in a box from Canada or you have a hand-me-down spring mattress, these tips can make your bed look expensive, even if it’s not.
Use White Sheets
White might be the most boring color for sheets in the world, but if you think about all the hotels you’ve ever stayed in, have any of them used anything other than white sheets? The answer is most likely no. But, it’s not about white looking rich. It’s about what you can do around the white sheets that matters. For example, you can get any color or pattern of throw pillows and they’ll go with your white sheets. The same is true for blankets and comforters.
Plus, white sheets are very easy to take care of. If they become soiled, a little bit of bleach can restore them to their pristinely white glory. You’re also going to discover that white sheets don’t cost as much as colored or patterned sheets do. This is probably another trick that hotels use to get an expensive look at a bargain price.
Use King Size Pillows, Even on a Queen Size Bed
While standard pillows are normally recommended for queen size beds, they look a little small and make the bed look less comfortable. After all, standard pillows are really meant for single and full size beds, so they just don’t look right on a queen size bed. When you use king size pillows instead, you’re filling up the width of the mattress and making the bed look plusher and more inviting. On a king size bed, use three king size pillows instead of two to give the larger bed a fuller appearance.
Layers Are Important
Nearly all luxury hotel beds have a bottom sheet, top sheet, blanket, and comforter. These layers are important to making the bed look as comfortable as possible. The blanket should be a muted solid color (think gray or beige) and made of a material that is associated with comfort (think cotton, fleece, or even cashmere). This blanket will be the base for all the other layers that come next, including a comforter, which is discussed next.
Turn the Comforter Down Halfway
This trick is universally used in luxury hotels. Fold the comforter in half and place it at the bottom of the bed. This exposes the muted-colored blanket and makes the bed look fluffier than it is. And we all know that fluffy equals comfort. The comforter should also be white or at least a solid color that is hinted at in the rest of the room. It should not be patterned, bold, or bright. You’re going for an appearance of understated wealth, and subtle solid colors are associated with luxury.
Conclusion
Add some throw pillows and a folded throw blanket at the end of the bed and you’re done! You’ll have an expensive-looking hotel bed without the added cost of the hotel room. Enjoy!
