Hello World! Welcome Friends! A lot of homes have awkward spaces that we’re not really sure what to do with. It seems a waste to not use it for anything, especially in a smaller home, but it might not be a full room or a space you feel that you can use well. These spaces can include entranceways and hallways, closets, alcoves, spaces under staircases, and bay window spaces. What should you do with these small, awkward spaces if you don’t want them to go to waste? They might not be big enough for a full living space, but you can make use of them to get more from your home.
Make It Useful
Just because a space is small, it doesn’t make it useless. In fact, you can get a lot of use out of a small space if only you know what to do with it. One great way to use a little and awkward space is to turn it into a home office or workspace. You don’t need a lot of space to do this, and it can be used for anything from working from home or taking care of household admin to getting homework done. You could also turn a small space by an external door into an area for getting dressed and undressed before you go out – add a bench and store your shoes and outerwear there.
Bring Light Into the Space
Small spaces can often look a little cramped and dark. An easy solution to this is to add some more lighting, which can improve not just the space itself but also the wider room. A residential electrician can install new lighting for you if there isn’t current wiring that you can make use of. Awkward spaces might benefit from lights such as wall sconces or pendant lights, which won’t take up too much space. On the other hand, you could use the space purely for housing a floor lamp.
Use It for Decoration
Your awkward space doesn’t necessarily have to be used for anything practical. It could just be a decorative space that makes your home look more stylish. You can use the space to hang some artwork, put up shelves, or perhaps place a small table, dresser, or another piece of furniture, where you can place ornaments and various objects. Create a little area that only exists to look good and that helps to enhance the rest of the room and the rest of your home.
Create a Cozy Space
Some little nooks are also well suited to creating a cozy space where you can get some peace. You might have a space by a bay window or perhaps under the stairs, which you can use to create an intimate and private area for relaxing. It could be the perfect place to read a book, listen to music or perhaps do some yoga or meditation if there’s enough space.
Awkward spaces in your home don’t have to be left empty. With a bit of creativity, you can make them more useful and stylish.
