Hello World! Welcome Friends! All things are subject to wear and tear, this is even more so if they are active objects or tools. Even the human body is subject to wear and tear – ever experienced a burn out or an injury? Better still, you can ask the elderly ones around you about their great physical state.
Asides the wear and tear that occur as a result of use and age, there also is the accumulation of foreign bodies and particles over time and use. These particles and foreign bodies, generally regarded as dirt, can have a negative or distortive effect on an object or surface hence the need for proper maintenance.
Proper maintenance here will generally involve cleaning, washing and polishing of whatever the object is. However, for some objects or surfaces, depending on the gravity of the situation, a normal cleaning might simply not do.
Pressure Washing
This is a process of applying intense water pressure on a surface, to thoroughly clean it up. This is normally done with a machine called a pressure washer. They are described and discussed in great detail here.
As the name implies, it is an instrument or machine that sprays water at a very high pressure. It is built in such a way that the water it squirts out at a high pressure is able to remove dirt, mold or mud that have become stuck on surfaces like houses, cars etc.

How Does It Work?
Basically, it is just a water pump powered by an engine that is either powered by electricity or gas depending on the size. It collects water from a water source, and there has to be a constant water source, from which it draws water, and releases it at a high pressure.
It has five main parts which are:
- A Water Inlet: This is the hose which connects it to the water source. It normally would have a filter to prevent debris or any unwanted particle from being sucked in.
- An Engine: This could either be a gas engine or an electric motor. The smaller types are usually run by an electric motor and thus require electricity, while the ones run by a gas engine are usually bigger and are normally used externally.
- The Water Pump: It is made in the form of a hand operated water pump and its work is to suck the water from the source and pushes it the other way squirting it out at a high intensity.
- A High Pressure Hose: Note the emphasis on a high pressure hose, this is so as to be able to withstand the intense water pressure that would run through it. The hose is usually a reinforced wire mesh with different layers of high density plastic.
- The Cleaning Attachment: These can come in different forms like a spinning wand, a trigger gun that releases water when the handle is pressed or a spinning wand. It should be noted though, that the type of cleaning attachment to be used is dependent on what you are cleaning.
The above does not provide a complete description of the pressure washer. We simply looked at the basic features. There are those with extra features and you can get more information about the different types here: https://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/24/realestate/24home.html.
Things to Know About Its Use
Get the Right One
As earlier stated there are those that run on gasoline and there are those that use electric. The issue therefore is to get the right one depending on what you want to use it for.
You should also know that even among those that run on gasoline, there are different types and sizes. Different manufacturing companies may have different size options so your choice should be determined by your proposed use of it.
The important thing is that you ask questions so you can know exactly what you need to buy that will be fit for your purpose.
Get to Know How to Use It
If you intend to make use of the machine yourself, then for your own safety, make sure to learn how to make use of it. Study the manufacturer’s manual or guide that it comes with and ask questions if you are not certain of some things. Don’t be shy to ask for help.
Below are some tips to guide you.
- Wear safety goggles for your eyes
- Get yourself heavy duty boots, to avoid slipping or water hitting your legs and injuring you
- There’s need for extra care if yours is powered by electricity. Electricity and water do not make a good combination.
- Wear safety gloves.
- Don’t point it at another person or animal to avoid injuries.
It is Better to Contact the Professionals
Despite what you might have read online and what you might come to know about it, it is most likely that you have never used a pressure washer before. Yeah, you might have seen it being used on TV or online, you might have even watched your neighbor use it but does that really count for much?
The point is to avoid a situation where you end up creating a mess rather than cleaning it up. People have been known to create more damage for themselves while attempting to do it alone.
Depending on where you reside within and outside the country, there are reputable companies like the Louisville pressure washing service that you can engage to take care of this for you.
So why not engage a professional to help you with the task? As a matter of fact, hiring a professional might be a must depending on the location or type of property to be cleaned, e.g. a factory a public building or an industrial complex.
Conclusion
There is some dirt that no amount of scrubbing will remove. There are also some tasks too arduous, tasking and stressful that even the time spent on them could have been put to better use.
Thank goodness for cleaning services that make use of machines like the pressure washer. They make the whole task easy and are a lot more effective.
