The new design trends make lighting the focal point of the kitchen, where previously it had been more of an afterthought. The good news is that lighting choices are more diverse than ever before and people are realizing the benefit of taking the time to put some serious thought into their lighting design choices.

You might be asking yourself what are some big kitchen design trends that are going to be making a splash for the new year and beyond? What we have is a list of some of the most popular design trends that you will be glad you jumped on when you finally decide to upgrade the lighting in your kitchen.
Mixed Metals
Brass has been the go to metal for a long time and it was extremely popular in 2018. Brass has a classic feel that is timeless; however, there are other metals you should consider when choosing new lighting designs for your kitchen.
Brass is finding a companion with pewter, copper, and black metals in lighting fixtures. What this does is create a more organic look that compliments the design and overall purpose of any kitchen.
Industrial Designs
The industrial style kitchen isn’t anything new, but the industrial style fixtures are becoming more and more popular all throughout the house. Where they really fit best is in the kitchen. Why? Simple. The kitchen is the workhorse of your home, so some industrial inspired lighting fixtures and accents will give your kitchen that purpose built style that will make your kitchen unique.
Features and Accents
Accent lighting isn’t just for the living room. Under cabinet lighting can help create focal points out of sinks, bars, and make the colors on your cabinets really stand out. Also, lighting that highlights the backsplash accents will create a dramatic contrast that will make your kitchen look professional and unique.
Showcase Lighting
Light fixtures that are installed inside of cabinets with glass fronts are becoming more and more popular because of their ability to highlight the craftsmanship of your cabinets, countertops, and create a display type of feature in your kitchen.
Zone Lighting
This is not as dramatic as some of the other lighting options mentioned above, but with zone lighting you can separate your kitchen out into different zones that can be lighted individually. This creates a functional yet stylistic contrast when you have parts of the kitchen illuminated and others that are not.
Chandelier Lighting
While chandeliers are traditionally thought of as a dining room accent, they are becoming more popular with kitchens that have more of a vintage design. You can get them in a rubbed bronze to accent those vintage elements of your renovated kitchen.
There’s no limit to the quality and style of lighting that you can put in your kitchen. The best part is breaking free of the traditional rules to create something unique. We can help you with all the lighting design and maintenance jobs that will turn your average kitchen into the kitchen of your dreams.

Hi Kathryn,
At the end of your article you say you can help with all of our kitchen lighting design jobs– do you have a consulting company? I would love to find a chandelier that fits my kitchen and my tastes. Thank you.

One thing I really enjoy about having put my current kitchen together a couple years ago is the lighting. Never had undercab lights before — they’re awesome. I love the overhead lights I chose, too, especially the kitchen, dining, living and master regions. (i’ll probably switch out the other two bedrooms’ lights in a few years.) Thanks for bringing your ideas to Fiesta Friday.

Thank you for the article!
By the way, I also have the industrial style fixture and I love the feel it gives to a room. It kind of looks even more modern but at the same time, it’s in a minimalistic style. I’d suggest everyone to just try something new because even small changes can give completely different vibes.
