Hello World! Welcome Friends! It does not matter if you are trying to live in a home that is as minimalist as possible or one that is packed with the latest in gadgets and home living trends, there are some items that you simply can’t do without. Here are some of the items that we think every home should have.
A Plunger
No one wants to think about it, but you need to be prepared for the eventuality where your drains – or worse, your toilet – clog and won’t clear. This can render your sinks and bathroom unusable. This is less than ideal, especially when the solution is fairly simple.
You need to make sure that you have the right size of plunger to be able to take on the task at hand. This might mean that you have to get one for your toilet and another for your sinks as they will need to be of different sizes to adequately cover the drains. You should also make sure to read up on how to use the plunger effectively so that you are able to tackle a blockage if you do have one.
A First Aid Kit
Your home is a safe space but there is no denying that there is the chance that an accident could happen here. For that reason, you need to make sure that you have all of the supplies that you need for basic first aid. You can buy full kits online, or you could make your own.
Try to have one kit for emergencies and one for everyday use so that you always have supplies if you need them. Keep one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom and make sure that frequent visitors to your home like family and friends know where to find them too.
A Bath Stopper
If you have a bath, it can quickly be made functionless if you do not have the right drain stopper fitted. Older ones tend to be a little flimsy and the seal on them might not be as good as they used to be. No one wants to sit in their bath and watch as the water level gradually gets lower.
Take a look at some of the bathtub drain stopper types available. If you can be certain that you have the right bathtub drain stopper types for your tubs, you know that you will be able to fill your bath as full as you like without the water going anywhere until you are done.
Microfibre Cloths
If you want a cloth that you can use in multiple parts of your home to clean easily, you need to look into microfibre cloths. Several can be bought in a packet and it is not unusual to find several bright colors in the one bag – so you might want to think about assigning a color to a room in your home.
They can be used wet with different cleaning products to pick up dirt and grease, or they can be used dry to dust. They can also be used over and over – just chuck them in the washing machine to clean them and have them as good as new!
A Squeegee
Are you tired of cleaning streaks and watermarks off your glass? Whether you are trying to keep mirrors, windows, or a shower partition clean, it can be quite an endeavor to do so.
A squeegee is the perfect investment here. When the glass is still wet, you just have to run the squeegee over it and it will be left streak-free. You can even invest in an extendable squeegee to help you reach glass that might be beyond your reach.
A Pet Hair Attachment
If you have pets, you will know how much they shed. Even if they are short-haired, you can still find yourself quickly covered in pet hair. You need to be able to properly clean up this pet hair if you want to maintain a tidy and welcoming home.
For this reason, investing in a pet hair attachment for your vacuum cleaner can be a great move. This will often have better suction than a regular attachment. It might also be a good idea to look for something fairly lightweight and easy to carry.
A Good Set of Knives
You can work wonders in the kitchen with the right set of knives. By making a good investment here, you should be set for life. Even if you move through multiple kitchens, having the right knives by your side will always be key.
Any chef will tell you that a sharp set of knives is a must. Even if you aren’t much of a cook, you should make sure that you have good knives on hand to help with any preparation you do have to do.
Candles
If you want to create a warm and comforting atmosphere, candles are some of the fastest ways that you can do so. There are many options out there to choose from, from tealights to pillars and more, and they are generally inexpensive to buy.
You could even choose a scented candle if you want to add something extra to your home. These throw a fragrance into the air as you burn them. It is possible to buy nearly any scent you could think of, from fresh ones like sea salt or cotton to common flowers like rose or lavender and more.
Screwdrivers
If you don’t have screwdrivers, you are going to end up needing them sooner than you might imagine. You need to make sure that you have a flathead and a Phillips in your collection so you are able to fix issues as they arise.
Make sure you also have a few different head sizes – some screws can be very small after all. It might be a smart idea to look for a set that will allow you to switch out the actual blades with a single handle.
A Bottle Opener/Corkscrew
You never know when you might need a bottle opener or corkscrew. If you are one for entertaining, you should have one of these on hand so you can open any drinks that your guests might bring.
It can be really frustrating to get a new bottle of wine home from the store only to realize that you have no way to open it. You can end up trying something a little experimental, and this will result in spilt wine and a smashed bottle more often than not. It is a useful tool that you should not discount.
These are just some of the many items that you should have around your home. Each one is useful in its own way, and they can help you out of many difficult situations. Even if you want to have a fairly minimalistic home, these items are still ones that you should own. They will help you to tackle any issue that might come your way. If you are missing any of the above items from your collection, you should step in and try to procure them as soon as you can. You always need to make sure that you have everything you need to live comfortably, no matter where you might be.
