Hello World! Welcome Friends! Your home is a haven, and you want to keep it that way for as long as possible! And to manage that, you’re going to need to regularly check on the safety and security of your property. You never know when something can go wrong, and you could be living with a damaged back gate or subsidence in the foundation for weeks before any problems actually occur. So we need to stop these kinds of problems in their tracks right now, for the safety of your family, and for your own peace of mind. Here are some areas to start with.
Keep an Eye on Alarms
How long has it been since you last checked your smoke alarm? Over a year? Then it definitely deserves a test! You might need to replace the batteries in it, and or you might need to get a whole new alarm fitted – you just won’t know unless you test. Similarly, be sure to test any security alarms as well. You want to be sure that your burglar alarm is firing all sensors correctly, and that it goes off without the right code to disarm it.
Check Your Attic
A lot can go on in your attic without you even realizing it. As such, you should be checking up there at least twice a year, usually in spring and winter. Otherwise a nest of wasps or mice could have moved in without you knowing, or you could even have a leak or a hole in the roofing that allows the elements straight in.
Head up there now and look for signs of damage, both high and low. Listen out for weird noises, and check for a musty smell too. And if you do find a hole, don’t try to repair it yourself. You don’t know how extensive the damage really is, and it can be dangerous to mount your own ladder for an investigation. Call in a company like Techline Roofing and Restoration to sort out the problem for you, especially if you want to rest assured that the roof can hold up against the elements for the next 5 to 10 years with no problem.
Take a Walk Around the Garden
How secure is your garden? You won’t know until you’ve checked! Take a walk around it to see if there are any gaps in the hedge or the fencing, and that the padlock on any gates on the perimeter are fully secured. If you can, try to fit a bolt lock on each one as well, as this acts as a double layer of protection against invaders.
It’s also a good idea to identify the darkest parts of the garden. These could act as hiding places for both humans and critters alike, so be sure to illuminate them with outdoor lighting. Even just a motion trigger light on your home’s back wall works wonders for warding things away.
You can keep your home safe with some proper security vigilance!
