Hello World! Welcome Friends! Nothing beats the soft, comforting feeling of a carpet beneath your feet. Wall to wall carpeting is such a treat especially when you have kids. And, your carpet can play a pivotal role in the decor of your home, too.
The downside, of course, is cleaning and maintaining it. A carpet is the spot in your house that can be the focal point of allergens and dust that can make life difficult. Cleaning it regularly is essential to having a home with clean, pure air. This can get expensive if you opt for professional carpet cleaning, and time consuming if you decide to do it yourself.
As with most things, it comes down to your money or your time. With this in mind, you may be wondering if it is worth it to get a steam cleaner when you have lots of carpeting in your home. In this article, we will go over some of the things to keep in mind so you can decide for yourself if you should buy a steam cleaner.

Types of Steam Cleaners
There is not just one type of steam cleaner so knowing the differences between them will help you decide.
For example, if your carpeting is in good shape but you get the occasional stain on it and don’t want to call in a pro for that then a handheld steam cleaner will be a great option for you. This way you can have a professional come once in a while for a total deep clean. Then, you have the handheld to take care of any small ones. They can also be used to steam clean drapes or furniture too so they are quite versatile.
For larger DIY jobs for your carpet, you should look into a cylinder steam cleaner. This is a residential version of the classic commercial one with a cylinder of hot water. These are great for sanitizing large areas of your carpet as well as certain furniture. They are expensive, however, so you would only want one if you don’t plan to use a professional.
Since the large cylinder ones are not on the same level as commercial. It can take a while to get a deep clean on the carpet.
The key to remember here is to not get confused by steam mops as those are for hard floors and tile and not for use on a carpet.
Risk of Not Enough Heat
One of the biggest benefits to steam cleaning is the fact that it kills bacteria and germs like viruses. The problem with a residential steam cleaner is that they may not get hot enough to kill the bacteria. One of the problems is with the name itself. They are called steam cleaners but in reality are hot water extraction cleaners.
The difference is that hot water is sprayed on the rug and then sucked out by the nozzle. They don’t actually use steam which would be very hot. Commercial cleaners are powerful enough to heat the water to a temperature in which it leaves no bacteria, fungus or virus alive in its wake.
Many residential ones can do a decent job, but none come close to the results of a pro.
