Hello World! Welcome Friends! Is every school in your town the same? Do they all seem to be squat cement constructions, or lofty outdoor facilities? It’s not uncommon for cities to fashion all of the schools in their area by the exact same floor plan because most school boards will accept bids and contract with a single company for their construction needs. Architects, however, have started looking into the classic design of school buildings and finding new ways to make them more innovative and conducive to learning. Things like integrating technology, improving safety, and using certain architectural styles are all suggested to improve learning environments.

Technology
Students are now in the post computer lab era and classrooms are doing their best to keep up. School designers agree that adding technology and compatible options into every classroom is a must for modern learning. Most classes now are equipped with at least a Smart board, while other schools also provide laptops for all of their students. This isn’t the end of the line, however. STEM classrooms can incorporate certain robotics soft and hardware, chemistry classes need access to things like gas lines for Bunsen burners, and most school utilize a full security system complete with cameras in every room.
Security
Security is probably one of the first things on the minds of educators and parents alike. These crazy times have yielded unprecedented, devastating events, so every school should be prepared for the worst. Automatic locking doors is an easy addition to any building to keep unauthorized visitors from entering the hallways with students. Building in safe rooms that connect to classrooms is another option worth considering. Even something as simple as using more glass and transparent barriers to make it more difficult for children to bully or harass others without being caught can create a safer environment for students.
Design
More and more districts are opting for a modern building style to accommodate the newest trends in learning. Using things such as open floor plans and interconnected spaces, schools can allow students to feel more free to determine their own learning path. Instead of shuffling through crowded hallways under flickering florescent lights, they can move from one space to another across a large, open space so they feel more free and less confined. This can help to spark creativity and an interest in learning.
Modern schools deserve modern designs, which is why architects are recommending these new techniques when designing schools.
