Hello World! Welcome Friends! There are some people who live in their birthplace their entire lives. Sure, they may go on trips and visit a few places, but they have no desire to ever move away from their hometown. Then you have those who move around. Some move around often and some move every now and then, whether for personal reasons or for job opportunities. The point is that people move for different reasons, but the act of moving isn’t as simple as just packing your bags and going somewhere… There are some important considerations to think about before you move.
Yes, finding a moving company, setting up your change of address, and organizing your packing are important considerations on how to make your moving process smooth but not the major ones. The considerations we’re talking about discuss how your life will be impacted in a new city and state.
Uprooting your life from one state to another is a major life event and shouldn’t be taken so lightly. There are some important considerations and decisions you have to make in order for you to have a fresh and positive start in your new setting. So before you pack up your house, make sure you take the time out to carefully think about these important considerations first.
Major Considerations to Think About Before Moving to a New State
Job Opportunities
Before moving anywhere, you first need to look at the job market for a particular city within the state you choose because your livelihood is what’s going to determine whether or not you can afford to live in that state. Now, if your job is the reason you’re relocating, then this consideration doesn’t weigh too heavy with you, but you should still check it out just in case your job doesn’t pan out as you planned.
Depending on the city/state you’re moving to, your position could be in a huge job market or it could be scarce. So if your job isn’t the reason for your move, you want to start your job search as soon as possible before moving to see how desirable your skills and specialty are in the state you plan to move to.
Cost of Living
The cost of living varies from state to state. Everything from gas and groceries to housing and utilities, there can be a major shift in an upward or downward trajectory costing you more or less than where you currently live. For example, southern states like Texas have a higher cost of living than Tennessee, but despite the higher cost of living in Texas, you can compare Texas electric rates to have lower monthly utility costs. So it’s little things like that, that you have to really do your homework on to see if the affordability for the state you chose is realistic for your salary.
Quality of Schools
If you have children, then their education is at the top of your priorities list, and making sure there are good schools for them to attend is a must. The neighborhood you move to is what’s going to determine the quality of schools your children will attend.
By settling in a state with exceptional schools and colleges/universities, there will not only be great educational opportunities for your children but there will be more entertainment opportunities for your family as well, like sporting events, plays, and other local events to attend.
Housing
Without being in the area, it’s pretty hard to get a good feel of the neighborhood you could potentially be moving to. Some people are lucky enough to move to a state where they have family and friends living there already and can recommend certain areas that are a good fit. Others have to rely on the internet and hope the pictures and description do it justice.
If you’re unsure about the neighborhood you want to move to, consider visiting the area to see if they have any restaurants in Blue Bell, PA (or wherever else you’re planning to move) or any other amenities like a local park you can take your little one to socialize. If you can afford it, take a weekend to go to the state you plan to move to and drive around the different neighborhoods. Get in contact with a local realtor for assistance in finding your dream home and to have a better idea of the prices of homes or the cost of rent, if you’re going to rent.
Commute
Your commute time is something that not too many people think about when moving to a new city. Unfortunately, it takes them actually moving to the new state before finding out they’re going to be stuck in traffic for 45 minutes before getting to work.
If you’ve closed in on your home, do a quick Google search of how long or how many miles it will take you to get to work or to take your children to school. You might find that driving your car is impractical and it be much easier to commute by subway. Research how residents typically commute to see if it’s the best way for you to travel.
