Hello World! Welcome Friends! Barbecuing is one of the oldest known pastimes and methods of cooking in history. Back in the 1950s, people got together to have fun and entertain each other while cooking food outdoors. Even before barbecuing was a form of home entertainment for a group of people, it was a well-loved way of cooking our food over open fires. So, it’s no wonder why many people today still enjoy barbecuing and why many more are looking into getting a new grill to join in on it.
Many people often turn to getting a gas grill for many different reasons, especially since gas grills are more beginner friendly than its competitor, charcoal grills. Gas barbecues are far easier to start, once you get the hang of it and how to use it. The grills are also much faster to heat up and allow a much greater level of control over both the heat and the flames. Though gas grills don’t have the same ability to give food smokiness, the ease of use is perfect for those that are new to barbecuing and for helping them get further experience.
For those that are new to barbecuing and want to learn how to start a gas grill themselves to get a quick idea first, this article’s got just the information you need. And if you want to get any accessories, tools to make grilling easier or even a second barbecue once you’ve got the hang of barbecuing, you can visit Dickson BBQ for all that and more.
Step 1: Check Your Tank and Its Connections
Once your grill is clean and dry, check to see that you have a full tank. In order to begin to season the grill’s grates, you’ll need to have a proper amount of fuel in it to start the grill. However, in order to actually start the grill, whether it’s with a full propane tank or not, you need to make sure that the grill’s tubes to and from the burners are tightly connected.
Propane is highly flammable and, as a result, is incredibly dangerous when it isn’t in a controlled environment. So, making sure that the connections are properly tight – now and before every future barbecue session – ensures both your own, your family and friends’ and your home’s safety. Keep the tank’s flow valve off all the time and only turn it on when you’re planning to season the grates or start grilling.
Step 2: Make Sure the Grill Is Clean
When you get a new grill, make sure that the grill’s bowl – where the burners are – the burners themselves and grates are clean. If you bought the grill brand new and you’ve just taken it out of the box, it’s more than likely already quite clean, given a few lingering bits of styrofoam. But, if it’s a second-hand grill or if you’re unsure of the cleanliness of a new grill, you can take apart some of the parts to scrub with soap and water. Just make sure they’re properly dried before you put it back together.
When it comes to the grates, however, seasoning them is a great way to make sure they’re guaranteed clean. Seasoning is a process where you smoke off anything that’s already on the grates and replace it with oil. Seasoning your barbecue’s grates also makes it so that they can last a much longer time before they show any signs of rusting. To make the deal even better, using different oils makes it so the oil’s unique flavors are later passed on to the meat and veggies you cook on it.
Step 3: Light the Grill
When you’re finally ready to start grilling your food, you need to light the grill! Naturally, if you want to go ahead and start seasoning your grill’s grates, you’ll need to light the grill first.
Before you do start, though, make sure both the grill’s lid and the propane tank’s valve are open to let the gas flow. Despite the model of the grill itself and how many burners it has, your grill will almost always have an ignition button and the same amount of heat control knobs as the number of burners. Turn on whichever burners you plan to use to barbecue, then push down on the igniter button. If your barbecue grill doesn’t have any defects and is working as normal, flames should be formed and continue burning. You may also need one or two more pushes to create a flame, though.
Step 4: Start Cooking!
Once your grill’s lit, the only thing that’s left is to start barbecuing! To be even safer, turn down the heat a little so the flames aren’t licking at your hands or burning the food due to how high it is. Propane grills, once lit, work almost exactly like your stove does and often has the same heat control. So keep an eye on the food while it’s grilling and make sure that the food won’t burn.
When it comes to your barbecue, do remember that you don’t have to limit yourself to just meat or even vegetables. Many barbecue experts and chefs also throw fruits on their grills, whether it’s for the main course of the meal or for dessert. There aren’t any limits to what you can make with your grill, so try whatever dishes you want.
What to Do Once You’re Finished Grilling
When your food is done cooking and you don’t have any plans to make anything else, all that’s left is to turn the grill off. Unlike charcoal and other kinds of grills, propane or gas grills don’t have any complex methods that you need to turn it off. The same easy way you turn it on, you can turn it off, but without the need to touch the igniter button. Like a stove, just push and turn the control knobs to the off position. Without the gas being released to the burners and the ignition system off, the burners also shut off.
From there, you can scrape off the charred remains and close the lid. Make sure you turn the propane tank’s valve off before leaving the grill. Thanks to ease of use, it’ll be ready for the next time you want to turn the grill on, with many of the same steps!
