Hello World! Welcome Friends! Renovations are stressful. You are either moved out or have restricted access to some areas of your home and you have new people in your house. Whether it lasts for days or months, your life is disrupted. However, there are a few things you can do before you start a renovation that will better prepare you for the process.
Organize Your Renovation Paperwork
You have to do a lot of scheduling, leasing and purchasing during a renovation. For example, you have to schedule dumpster rentals Cincinnati, rent storage and work with contractors. You may even purchase your own supplies. These tasks produce lots of paperwork. Keep this paperwork organized, and keep copies of any contracts you sign. This helps you track your expenses and ensure that you are getting the services you paid for.
Go Through Your Possessions
Renovations are great times to purge your possessions, so as you go through the rooms you want to renovate, consider making several piles: donate, sell, trash and store. Don’t move things from your home to storage and back if you don’t plan to keep them after your renovation. If you are only having a little work done and are staying in your home, determine the things you need to keep there as well.
Create a detailed list of everything of value in your home and their values. You may even take photos.
Evaluate Your Security
You will likely have multiple people coming into your home during your renovation. Therefore, you may need to update your security. For example, you should purchase a safe for important documents. You may also include video surveillance, such as a video doorbell. This will alert you to deliveries and show you who is entering and leaving your home. Your contractors may appreciate easy access to your home through smart locks that can be easily reprogrammed when the work is done.
Address Inconveniences
Whether you stay at home or move out during your renovation, you experience inconveniences. You may not have access to a shower or your kitchen. You may have pets that can no longer wander the house and property. Your house may be dusty and dirty for a while. However, you can take steps to reduce these inconveniences. For example, you may join a gym so you have access to a shower, set aside a room for your pets and cover your furniture with sheets, keep internal doors closed and remove area rugs. If you have carpets, you may add plastic sheeting to protect them from dirty boots.
You can have a smooth renovation if you take time to prepare beforehand. Don’t forget to order your dumpster early.
