Hello World! Welcome Friends! You have won several accolades for your artwork and also for the fact that you take the trouble of ensuring that the artwork that was so painstakingly completed by you reaches your client without incurring any damage. And this is made possible by the techniques that you apply for packing the artwork.
In this article let us find out how you can opt for the DIY way of packing any painting that you have to send or transport somewhere, but at the same time, you do not have access to expert packing professionals at the moment.
Ideally, you must get the artwork packed by experts and preferably by the service provider that has worked on the painting or the architectural designs and patterns for you. Let us say, if you have approached https://mosaicist.com/, make sure you request them to do the packing and help you transport the artwork to the desired destination or the site.
So, let us take a look at what you must do to make the painting stay in the perfect shape.
Steps to packing the right way
Given below is a step-wise guide for the same. Take a look at the points.
Materials that you will need
You will require few supplies for the same, and these include packing tape, pair of scissors, a knife will suffice too. You will also require artist tape, measuring tape, glassine, blanket or foam. Bubble wrap is a must, and cardboard boxes.
It may be mentioned here that bubble wrap will be used for padding for that matter you can also use Styrofoam. And glassine is paper that is resistant to grease and water and will not adhere to the painting surface.
Aside from the above, you will also need brown paper, cardboard corners, and cloth for handling the artwork. You can also use Nitrile.
Process of packing your artwork
- You have to place the painting face down on the glassine at the same time make sure there is adequate room for wrapping around the edges.
- Artist tape is used for taping first the edges that are the longest. For extra safety, you can also use the glassine tape onto the picture. It will not stick to it.
- Next comes the bubble wrap. Place the smooth surface of the bubble wrap facing you. Now place the front face of the painting face down on the glassine. Avoid keeping the bubbles touching the surface of the painting as it can leave an impression on the painting.
- It is best to wrap the painting in multiple layers with the bubble wrap. It can act as a cushion should the piece be subjected to any kind of jerk or impact. Also, you must leave extra edges of bubble wrap on all the sides for optimum safety and cushioning.
- Once you have wrapped with bubble wrap all around, you can finally use a packing tape ensuring that from no place this tape touches the surface of your painting.
Lastly, use a suitable cardboard box that will allow your painting to be comfortably placed inside without forcing it to fit inside the box. Apply the final round of tape and place it on the delivery truck. Packing must be done, keeping in mind that your artwork might be subjected to sliding and pushing. Place a tag “fragile” on it.
