Hello World! Welcome Friends! Did you know we spend a third of our lives asleep in our bedrooms? It’s a lot. But that doesn’t even include the hours we spend reading, relaxing, or getting ready in the morning. If you’re thinking about redecorating a room in your house, why not start with the room you spend the most time in. Here are a few bedroom renovation ideas that don’t require ripping the room apart, spending a fortune or devoting hours of time you probably don’t have.
Consider Why You’re Doing the Renovation
Before you jump straight into renovating your bedroom, think about why you want to do it. If you’re short on storage space, consider following Marie Kondo’s advice and purge things first. Then you won’t spend a fortune on storing things you don’t really care about. If the goal is to make the room multi-functional, be clear on the additional purposes you want the room to serve. Like whether you want to create a dedicated study space or a built-in wardrobe for your clothing. If the room is too small or too dark, then you might want to focus on design solutions that address this problem first.
Recognize Your Limitations
Consider any limitations you might have. For example, if you have black cats or dogs, the color white probably isn’t the best choice. Grey or light blue might be more suitable. Know the dimensions of the space you’re working with so you don’t buy shelves that are too tall for the closet or a bed that literally fills the room. Also don’t rip out walls if you live in a rented apartment. Make sure you check with the landlord first.
Focus on Solutions to the Root Problem
If the room feels cluttered, your first solution is to clean and purge before you start to organize. Then you can design a custom wardrobe that makes the most use of your space. If the room is dark, you could put a mirror opposite the window to reflect natural light and alter the draperies to let in light. Or you might want to alter the design of the blinds and draperies so you can let sunlight in but keep bright headlights out of the bedroom at night.
Don’t Forget the Purpose of the Bedroom
Your bedroom isn’t an art gallery. It’s supposed to be a place to sleep. Wall decorations should be sparse, and every mural or poster should be relaxing. Choose a relaxing color scheme for the walls, ceiling and décor, not bright colors or energizing abstract patterns. Choose comfortable and easy to clean linens. This is where thick overstuffed pillows are fine as long as you like laying on them. If it hurts your neck when you try to sleep with it, get rid of it. Your comfort trumps fashion.
