Hello World! Welcome Friends! What can you do to make your garden look fantastic this winter?
Our gardens are always given extra TLC in the warmer months. Naturally we want our gardens to look blooming beautiful in the summer months, it’s a given that since we’re using our gardens more regularly in this time that we spend the most time on perfecting it’s look. By the time winter comes, our gardens can look bare, and bland, leaving not much for the eye to see, so we’re here to tell you exactly what you can do to make your garden look good this winter.
For your winter garden, you should look to plan and make sure you have flowers that are going to provide a colorful, beautiful bloom this winter. A garden that provides interest throughout the year is hard to maintain and takes some careful consideration and planning, but it’s certainly worth your while when you see the finished results.
Firstly, before tackling the plants, consider your outdoor lighting. While you won’t be sitting outside enjoying the lights in the cold, the lighting makes for a beautiful viewpoint from your kitchen window or living room. There is something gloomy about looking into a dull, dark, and damp garden space in the cooler months so it’s time to brighten the place up a bit.
It’s Time To Tidy Up!
Your plants can look a bit sad in winter if they’re left to rot away and turn brown. This can completely spoil you garden so the best place to start when embarking on your winter garden is tidy, tidy, tidy. Clean up the slushy leaves, dead head any dying plants, get rid of twigs, and start a compost heap! (Thank us later…). If you can, we recommend laying paving slabs so you can navigate around the garden without walking on the wet grass in winter. This will get extremely messy and boggy if you’re not careful.
Add Some Color!
With the addition of some colorful winter bedding plants, you can introduce a wonderful array of color to your garden in the winter. Whether you grow your flowers in greenhouses or cold frames, or simply plant early while the soil is still warm, be sure to protect your plants by covering them up throughout the colder days to give them the best chance to thrive throughout the cooler months.
While on the topic of weather, it’s important to take safety into consideration here. Rain and frost can make your garden incredibly slippery, while causing your patio to grow algae. Keep your walkways clean, and free from debris such as sludge and leaves, as well as snow. You should try keep on top of algae as much as possible to keep your garden safe, clean, and tidy. Additionally, bring any garden furniture indoors throughout the winter to keep the pieces looking fresh and clean. Algae, frost, and bad weather can heavily damage your beloved furniture.
