Hello World! Welcome Friends! The front yard of your home forms the first impression of your place for visitors; therefore, it is especially important to make sure that you are presenting your home property in the best possible way. Good curb appeal not only makes the outside of your property look better but also greatly increases the value and marketability of your house. This article will give you several ideas on what you can do to improve the look of your front yard.
Decide On the Type of Grass to Plant
When deciding on which grass to plant, there are many options. However, there are two most popular varieties of grass people use for their front yard. Before deciding on tall fescue vs. Kentucky bluegrass, it is important to understand the pros and cons of each type of grass. Kentucky bluegrass is a traditional choice, and it has many advantages, such as resistance to disease and drought; however, tall fescue also has benefits of its own. It helps to prevent soil erosion and does not need as much water or fertilizer as other types of grass.
Tall fescue is a tall-growing grass, which means that tall fescue lawns will need less frequent mowing. Tall fescue also allows deeper roots to grow, and therefore it can better withstand pests without damage. This type of grass is often grown on its own or mixed with other types of tall fescue.
Plant Hedges
One of the quickest and easiest ways to improve your front yard is by planting hedges. There are several different types, depending on the season and what you want to achieve aesthetically, and whether or not there are trees already growing in the area.
Adding a tall hedge along either side of your property will serve as both a barrier against the street while also providing screening from prying eyes in neighboring yards. These hedges need to take into account where utilities run (underground or overhead) when they are planted so that they do not block any necessary pathways or take up space where you might want to install equipment.
Rethink Your Lawn Stripes
The typical front yard has two sets of grassy areas divided by a sidewalk and street edge. One side is used for the house itself, while the other may contain flowerbeds, trees, shrubs, garden plots, or other objects meant to beautify your yard. The problem with this method is that it divides the area into two distinct sections that divide your property aesthetically instead of uniting it. For example, if you have trees in one bed over by the house, then why you would plant flowers just beyond them only to be separated from their blossoms? It makes no sense to have this sort of division, so consider a more natural approach.
One option is to simply plant tall perennials like hydrangeas or day lilies in your lawn areas instead of putting any ground cover down. This will save you both time and money while making your front yard look nicer at the same time. To make it aesthetically pleasing, use tall flowers on either side with small flowering shrubs in between them where you would normally place pathways.
Skip The Front Door Garden
The front door is where you access your home, it is not meant for decorative purposes even though many people do put flowers in front of their homes when they come for sale. If you look at what the pros are doing then you will notice that none of them plant anything other than color-blooming shrubs and perennials around the spot where your car will be parking itself. There isn’t enough space to get creative with larger plants so why bother trying? Additionally, since this is also where garbage cans stay parked all week long, having tall plants in front will only invite animals and pests to come to visit.
Be Careful With Flowers
Although it is nice to look at flowers, they do come with some drawbacks. If you want to keep them in your front yard then be aware that they will need twice as much water and care as other plants while they are growing in the summer heat. In addition, you might have to install a sprinkler system just for them or else face the possibility of killing them from over-watering when their life cycle gets too short from summer scorching.
Flowerbeds also take up space that could be used for something more practical such as planting a tree or shrub instead. This way you get more out of a smaller area by using ground cover or low-growing perennials around it rather than going for taller plants that would require a lot more room to grow.
The front yard is the first impression that your home gives to people who pass by. By thinking about it more like a design plan than an afterthought, you can make sure that it looks good (or at least better) while doing something good for the environment as well. Keep these tips in mind and you will have a better quality front yard in no time flat!
