Hello World! Welcome Friends! Sometimes, you want more privacy than your fences currently provide. Taller fences can be a great way to do this. Fence extensions are a great way to make your fence taller, and there are lots of options when it comes to extending your existing fence here from Fence Forge.
Can You Make a Fence Taller?
You can easily make your fence taller, through use of fence extensions, fence toppings, climbing plants, and even additional fence panels. All you need to do is to determine how much taller you need to make your fences, and debate between the multitude of options available to you.
How to Make an Existing Fence Taller
To gain more privacy or simply to enjoy the benefits of a tall fence, there are a few different things that you can do. For example:
Use Trellis Screens
Trellis screens are also known as lattice fence extensions or toppers. A lattice fence extension provides homeowners with the chance to add both extra height and a bit of fun to their fences. Lattice fence toppers are a great way to extend an existing fence and can also be a stable base for climbing plants.
Trellis toppers are available in a range of materials, from vinyl, metal, to wood, so no matter what kind of fence you’ve got, you’ll be able to make the fence taller and add some pizazz with a matching trellis.
Other Fence Extension Ideas
A trellis is not the only option when it comes to extending a fence with fence toppers. There are all sorts of toppers out there that will work well.
Picket Fencing
Picket fencing is usually only about 3 feet tall, meaning that it makes a great fence topper. It can provide a great amount of privacy, simply by increasing your fence height. This fencing comes in a range of colors, too, meaning you should be able to find one that matches your original fence.
Decorative Panels
There are a vast range of decorative panels available that come in various materials and colors so that you can add both extra fence height to your current fence and a bit of style.
Chain Link Fence Toppers
This type of fence topper is ideal for those with pets who seem to enjoy climbing up the fence panels and jumping over. Not only does it give you a tall fence, it makes it much harder for your furry family members to clamber over it! Chain link and mesh link fences are not the best option for a privacy fence, but they will definitely help to extend your fence.
Use Post Extenders
If you don’t think any of the fence toppers suit your privacy fence ideas, then you could consider using post extenders in your garden. These attach to the bottom of your fence posts and can add up to 3 feet of fence height. Fence post extenders can be fairly easy to install, simply slipping over your existing fence posts. Once secured with screws, these can be adjusted up and down.
Consider Climbing Plants
Sometimes called a living fence, you can use climbing plants to create a private fence and extend your existing fence. These have a range of benefits; not only do they extend your fence panels, but they smell great and look beautiful. A living fence can be made with ivy, vines, or any climbing plant, and can be based around a trellis or similarly shaped fence panel.
Alternatively, if you’re in no rush, you could plant a living fence by planting a line of trees to generate height and to add shade to your garden. Tall plants must, however, be cared for regularly and may take up more of your time.
Use PVC Pipes
You can use PVC pipes to extend your garden fence, and in fact, it is one of the most common ways to do so. This is a great way to add a privacy fence to your garden, and can be done by anyone. All you need is some PVC pipes from the local hardware store that will fit on top of your fence posts.
PVC pipes can be painted easily, making them suitable for a range of fence panels, and are relatively durable so they are a great way to construct a long-lasting privacy fence.
Things to Remember When Extending Your Existing Fence
Extending a fence is a fairly easy process, but there are a few things to consider when you’re doing it. You should make sure that you know exactly how tall you’d like the fence to be, taking into account animals that frequent your area, be it cats, or local wildlife a fence can be a great deterrence “if” it is tall enough.
