Hello World! Welcome Friends! Sometimes your kitchen might actually be small in terms of square footage. Sometimes it can just seem small because of the layout you’ve inherited or decided on. Either way, whatever the reason might be, discovering tips about making it feel bigger is always going to be useful. There are many different ways you can do this, and even if you are limited by the actual size of the space you’re dealing with, there is never any need for the kitchen to feel cramped. Read on for some excellent ideas to help you with this dilemma.
Clear Space
Before you can go ahead with any other kitchen décor tips, you need to ensure the space is as clear as possible first. One of the reasons that a kitchen can sometimes feel small is the number of items within it. When you think about it, there is really no other room in the house that will have quite so many individual things crammed into the various drawers, cupboards, and stored on work surfaces. From cutlery to crockery to large appliances to, of course, food storage, there is a lot to deal with.
If you can keep all of this as tidy as possible and ensure everything has a place (ideally not on show, unless it’s something you use every day like a coffee machine or microwave), then you’ll immediately find the room feels bigger. If you currently use your work surface or kitchen table as a storage area rather than a food prep area, then it’s time to invest in some additional kitchen storage. Even if this takes up more space, it will still look better than leaving everything out for all to see.
Use Open Shelving
Often when it comes to making a room look bigger than it really is, it’s about creating an optical illusion rather than doing anything extreme. In a kitchen, it can be the cupboards themselves that give off that enclosed and small feeling. If that is the case, removing the cupboard doors could well be the answer you’re looking for. Of course, you’ll need to make sure you keep everything within the cupboards neat and tidy, but when you can see it, all this should be easier to achieve.
If you prefer to have your cupboard doors in place, the next best option is to paint them a light color. This again can give the illusion of more space, as can painting the walls.
Some Color
Following on from the point about color above, white is the best way to make a kitchen feel larger if it’s color you want to change. However, an entirely white kitchen isn’t always aesthetically pleasing, and it’s not the easiest thing to keep clean either.
To improve the look and improve the feel of space, a few pops of color here and there can work wonders. It only needs to be added in a very subtle way, and you could choose to have random colored tiles, colored flooring, or even just a colorful splashback. Remember, you have to live with this look every day, so make sure it’s something you enjoy.
