Hello World! Welcome Friends! We lead by example, especially when we have children. It is important that children learn everything they need to know from us at home, and it’s important that we set a good example of course. Sending children to school teaches them everything that school has to offer, but when it comes to paying bills and the basic life care routines, then it is up to us to teach them how to keep on top of things. It might sound easy knowing how to take care of the laundry and pay bills, but it isn’t always as straightforward as that. And it is up to us to ensure our children are well prepared for independence when they leave home. And whether you hire a cleaning service or not here are some ideas on how we can teach children to be independent.
Trying Things Out
Letting children try new things, such as cooking under supervision, walking to the shop when they are old enough, and generally experimenting with everyday things is a great way for children to learn how to get things done. Some people learn by doing, and some people learn by being shown, but a good mix of both should help most children understand what needs to be done. Many children will learn by getting a frying pan out and mixing up a batch of pancakes And some children will learn by grabbing a recipe book and following the steps. Either way, it’s up to us to ensure that they are safely allowed to explore things such as the kitchen and cleaning, and also doing the laundry. And, all we need to do is observe from a distance and give pointers and keep them safe.
Showing Them the Ropes
The reason toddlers follow us around asking so many questions is because it is how they learn, so it’s up to us to show them and walk them through the process even though it may end up with them trying to “help“ which can make life much more difficult. It also extends to later on when children ask questions about bills, and other essential house management chores. We should answer questions and allow time to understand how things work. Children will always be inquisitive and this is a great thing as it allows them to explore, discover and learn.
Incentives
Children learning to become independent is sometimes something that can be an advantage as well. Giving children pocket money for tidying, cleaning, or helping with other jobs around the house, can keep everybody happy. Of course, we are all responsible for pulling together and ensuring that the house is kept clean and tidy, but extra jobs and hard work should be rewarded as well. So incentives can always help children with activities that help them learn new things and become independent.
So as difficult as it is to see our children growing up and becoming independent, if we do a good job we will see them become capable adults who are able to look after themselves effectively. And don’t fear they will still come back for a home-cooked meals regularly even if they can cook for themselves.
