Hello World! Welcome Friends! Unless you live an extremely minimalist lifestyle, most people want things on their walls. This gives us a chance to personalize and add our identity to our spaces without adding more furniture to take up floor space. If you’re not used to hanging things up, or this is for your first home on your own, it’s understandable to have some questions about how to do it safely.
Here are the top tips to help you hang anything you’d want on a wall, from paintings to shelves!
Want To Avoid Nails?
If you’re renting your space, or if you just found real estate for sale in Whistler and you aren’t ready to put holes in your walls yet, it’s understandable to want to avoid using nails. This problem doesn’t mean you can’t hang things, though! Instead, you can use a removable adhesive like command strips or mounting putty, which will allow you to take things down later easily. These don’t cause damage to the wall and can be taken down and moved at any time.
How To Hang Most Light Things
If you’re hanging picture frames or fairy lights in your home, and don’t fear holes in your wall, all you’ll need is some thin nails and a hammer. Choose where you hang your pieces by holding them up against the wall and considering if they look good there. Make sure to preview how things will look first so that you don’t put holes in your wall that you aren’t going to use.
From here, you should look at the back of your photo frame.
Does it have two brackets or one long string? For two shelves, if you want to be sure you get the locations correct, you can set the frame back against the wall so that the top of the frame is sitting where you’ll want to put your nails. Mark directly above where the two brackets are with a pencil. If you’re going to ensure the frame is entirely straight, you can use a level. Drive in your nails, with your hammer, downwards into the wall at a 45-degree angle. This will ensure that the picture stays up on the wall and doesn’t eventually fall.
If there’s one bracket or a piece of string on the back that connects two points, you can nail in one spot of the wall, centered where you want your picture to sit, at the same 45-degree angle.
How To Hang Heavier Objects
Heavier objects can be more difficult, but don’t let them scare you away. Studs are an interior part of your wall that helps hold up drywall. Using a stud finder, you can locate these and use them as support to hold heavier things on your wall without damaging them.
If you’d rather avoid that, you can instead use a threaded drywall anchor. These ribbed pieces can be hammered into a wall, and then you can either screw or nail things into them to allow support for items ranging from twenty-five to fifty pounds.
