Hello World! Welcome Friends! No matter what time of year it is, it’s always a good idea to prepare for the holidays. You can use these holiday home heating tips to keep your place nice and toasty on those colder winter days and nights. You want to save money, after all — though you might spend that on gifts for others. There’s another part of the holidays — and that’s decorations. While some people love going all out and putting up enough lights to illuminate a city, they often rack up huge energy bills. You want to be more energy efficient. Here are some ways you can do that:
Use LED Lights
You’ll use a lot less energy with these lights than you would with the traditional twinkling bulbs. Also, the LED lights will shine a lot brighter than incandescent ones, and they will also last a lot longer, too, which means no having to switch out any bulbs. The LED lights won’t hang themselves up, though, so you still need to do that yourself – be careful on that ladder, though.
Use a Timer
Another thing that can waste a lot of energy is leaving the holiday lights on all the time. They don’t need to be on all night. While you can try to remember to unplug them at a certain time, the better way to do it is to just get a timer. That way, you’ll know when the lights are going to go on and when they are going to go off.
Use a Surge Protector
If you are going to hang lights, you’re going to need a surge protector. The lights and other decorations could be prone to spikes in energy, and the power strip can both allow them to work and keep them safe from those spikes. If you just have them in a regular outlet, then you could be in danger of the lights being overloaded and your losing all power for a while.
Skip the Inflatables
A lot of people like to buy holiday-themed inflatables. They can be holiday characters or cartoon characters, but they are also energy drains, since they require a lot of energy to run consistently. Instead, you can get lawn decorations that don’t require electricity and let someone else be the one to rack up a large energy bill. Also, you don’t have to expend a lot of effort by putting the inflatables in the yard and then plugging them in. You can spend that time wrapping presents, instead.
Skip the Ambient Lights
Yes, these lights can be great at setting the holiday mood, but having them on all the time can also be a big drag on your energy bill. Sure, you could have it on for one particular day, but not throughout the whole holiday. You need to think about how the things you set up can affect what you have to pay for a month later. There ae plenty of ways to set the mood of a room without having to have something running all the time.
Use Traditional Decorations
The best way to be energy-efficient is to decorate your home with things that don’t even require electricity. There are plenty of holiday-themed posters, wall-hangers, and even things that you can stick onto your windows. Let’s not forget the stockings or even a traditional menorah that uses regular candles – though make sure you leave it in a safe place.
As you can see, you can make your place look festive and ready for the holidays without having to use things that will cost you in the not-too-distant future. Then you might not be so happy when the New Year has started. By being more energy-conscious, and also making sure anything you get is Energy-Star compliant, you’ll be ready for a lot more holiday cheer.
