Hello World! Welcome Friends! Having an AC system can be a lifesaver when the temperature heats up. However, there’s no denying that it can also use up a lot of energy. You just made it through winter with your elevated energy bills, so when does the pain stop!?
Well, you can stop it now by learning how to cut the cost of your AC energy bill:
Know When to Put the AC On
Should you ever have the AC on during the winter? In most cases, no, you shouldn’t. Having it on in the spring or fall is also unlikely, though it depends on how hot it is. If the air outside isn’t that hot, but it’s warm in your home, just open a window or two. See if this makes a difference and cools down your home. If it does, the AC can remain off. If it doesn’t, try the next idea and see if that helps as well.
Take Off Some Layers
It’s funny, this feels like an article talking about how to save on your winter energy bills, only in reverse! During winter, you can keep your heating system off for longer if you layer up. When it’s hot, you do the opposite. Take your thick jumpers off, put some shorts on, walk around barefoot, etc. All of these ideas help you cool down naturally. Combined with some open windows, this could be enough to sustain a comfortable temperature when it’s hot outside.
Service Your AC Unit
Let’s be honest, the prospect of making it through an entire summer without turning your AC on is ludicrous. Some of you may already need to have it on already, even if you’re dressing appropriately. When the air gets too warm, opening windows won’t do anything. So, the AC has to go on, but you can still save money on your energy bills.
All you have to do is service your AC unit before the hotter months come around. This will allow someone to come in and conduct minor AC repair services if they are required. It lets you ensure your unit is working correctly, letting it be as efficient as can be. Therefore, you can have it running without it using up as much electricity.
Keep the Windows Closed When the AC is On
Ironically, leaving your windows open can be a bad idea! But, this is only true if your AC unit is on. If the windows are also open, then it’s harder for the unit to regulate the temperature in your home. It has to fight a lot harder, use more energy, and be on for longer. Basically, it creates terrible conditions for the AC unit, so close the windows to use less energy but remain cool.
We can break this all down into two different stages. The first stage is to save money by avoiding your AC altogether. If you can make your home cool without turning it on, then that’s great. The second stage is to save money when you have no choice but to turn the AC on. There will be times when it is simply too hot, and your AC has to be on. But, by servicing the unit and keeping the windows closed while it’s on, you will still save money.
