Hello World! Welcome Friends! The kitchen is the heart of the home, a space where people come together to create and share nourishing meals and catch up with loved ones. But it’s also bound to get a little messy over time with so much day-to-day activity.
Studies have found that the average chopping board holds more bacteria than a toilet seat – while 60% of dishcloths are contaminated with e.coli. Thankfully regular cleaning rituals can keep your kitchen in order and reduce the risk of causing illness.
So where should you start? Work through the steps outlined below to leave your kitchen spotless.
Clean Out the Fridge
Even with relatively regular clear outs, a typical fridge is likely to feature spills from jars, dirty packaging and out of date food. Start by removing all its contents to get at the shelves and any other attachments that need your attention.
It’s best to soak these items in a food-friendly antibacterial cleaner before rinsing them clean. While they dry, wipe down the fridge interior with a damp cloth.
Clear Out Cupboards
Kitchen cupboards can easily become dumping grounds for expired food and unwanted ingredients. Again, it’s best to remove everything and start again if you have the time.
Take stock of any duplicate items and throw away anything that’s gone off. Dust and wipe down the cupboard shelving before returning everything in a logical order. The same goes for cupboards and drawers storing pans, crockery and cutlery.
Scrub Appliances
The hob and oven are the most obvious areas to target here. Remove any loose debris before using a specialized spray to unseat any dirt and grime that’s accumulated over time.
Smaller appliances like the microwave, toaster and coffee maker will also need freshening up if you use them regularly. Wipe down buttons, remove crumbs and clear up any residual spills.
Wipe Down Worktops
Next up are your kitchen counters. Work in sections by removing all items, sweeping up crumbs, and using a disinfectant spray to kill off any hidden germs. The cleaning products and equipment used here should be appropriate for your worktop material.
Repeat this process with each section of the counter, giving special attention to food preparation areas and the space around the sink.
Sweep and Clean the Floor
The steps above are bound to have knocked some dust and dirt onto your kitchen floor, so it makes sense to tackle this area last. Sweep up crumbs with a simple dustpan and brush while making sure to get into the corners to catch any cobwebs.
Finally, take a damp mop and get scrubbing! Again, your cleaning products should suit the material you’re working with, whether its vinyl, hardwood or tile.
Whether you’re getting ready for guests or simply want to enjoy a cleaner space, tackle these key steps to make your kitchen sparkle.
