Hello World! Welcome Friends! Epoxy floors are commonly used in industrial facilities, retail stores, and many other facilities that require sturdy flooring. People love them because they are durable, good-looking, and easy to install and maintain.
However, like everything else, epoxy floors must be cleaned and maintained to look their best and last a long time. This guide will discuss how to clean and maintain epoxy floors.
Daily Maintenance
Epoxy flooring is easy to clean and maintain. However, depending on where they are installed, it would help if you cleaned them daily or weekly. For instance, if they’re in a garage at home, you may clean them once a week or when you notice dirt.
However, it would help if you cleaned an industrial facility or retail store daily or several times, depending on how much dirt comes in. Daily care prevents dirt and dust buildup, which dulls the surface over time.
Daily Sweeping and Mopping
Use a broom with soft bristles to sweep the floor gently to remove loose dirt and debris without scratching the surface. If you need to cover a larger area, like in a factory, use a dust mop to cover more ground. This will remove fine dust particles quickly.
However, if there is a lot of foot traffic or spills, you may also have to mop daily. Use warm water and an ammonia solution. Dip a microfiber mop in the solution, squeeze out the water, and then mop. The mop should be damp enough to pick up dirt without leaving puddles.
Vacuuming
Vacuuming can be an effective alternative or complement to sweeping, especially in spaces where dust and debris are more prevalent, like industrial settings. Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment to avoid scratching the epoxy surface.
Stain Prevention
Epoxy flooring is water resistant, so you don’t have to worry if you spill water. Wipe the water with a microfiber mop. But what if you forget to wipe and leave standing water for several hours?
Nothing will happen if you are talking about water that spills from a cup. It will likely bead up and roll off without stain or damage. However, if there is a lot of water, it can penetrate through cracks and damage the substrate underneath.
That said, you must be careful with some liquids. Red wine, battery acid, or strong dyes can permanently stain epoxy floors if they are not cleaned regularly.
Wipe up spills as soon as they occur. Whether oil, chemicals, or food, prompt cleanup prevents staining and minimizes slips and falls. Moreover, you can place a mat at all entry points and high-traffic areas to catch dirt and moisture before reaching the epoxy floor.
Deep Cleaning and Stain Removal
Even with daily care, your epoxy floors will benefit from a general cleaning once a month. This involves a deeper cleaning to ensure the floor maintains its shine and is free of stubborn dirt and stains.
Deep cleaning is best done when no one is in the facility so that you can move around items and machinery to reach hidden areas. To mop the floor, use warm water, ammonia (2-3 ounces per gallon), or detergent. Avoid soap-based detergents because they leave residues. Moreover, mop in sections so the cleaning solution doesn’t dry on the floor.
After mopping with detergent, rinse the floor with clean water to remove soap residue. Use a clean mop or wet vacuum to remove all cleaning solutions. If there are stains, gently scrub them with a non-abrasive pad dipped in ammonia. Afterward, rinse thoroughly with water.
If you cannot clean rust stains and tire marks, buy a lactic acid-based cleaner for rust stains and a degreaser for tire marks.
What Is the Best Cleaner for Epoxy Floors?
You can clean epoxy floors using mild, pH-neutral detergents or ammonia solutions. Ammonia solutions are very effective at tough stains. Mix 2-3 ounces of ammonia with a gallon of water.
Mistakes to Avoid in Epoxy Floors Maintenance
Despite their resistance to many substances, epoxy floors can be damaged by harsh chemicals. Bleach, vinegar, and citrus-based cleaners might discolor or dull the epoxy finish.
Abrasive cleaning tools such as steel wool and harsh scrubbing pads will leave scratches and damage to the surface. Soft-bristle brushes or microfiber cloths are better for cleaning. Even though epoxy floors resist stains, spills should not be ignored. Ignoring them can cause long-term damage.
Epoxy floors are an excellent choice because they are durable and attractive. However, they need a consistent cleaning and maintenance routine to look their best. The above tips will help you maintain yours in excellent condition for years.
