Hello World! Welcome Friends! From time to time most of us have guests come and stay at our house, whether they’re family stopping over or friends traveling for a catch-up.
When guests do stay, it’s important to make them feel at home with an environment that’s clean and welcoming.
Doing just a little bit of preparation before your guest arrives can make a world of difference – and leave them wanting to come back in the future. Here are all the tips you need to be the perfect host.
Provide Enough Towels and Blankets
Before your guest arrives, pop some towels and bedsheets in the wash to make sure they can sleep comfortably while they’re staying.
If they’re staying in the winter, be sure to provide extra blankets for when the temperature drops overnight.
Keep Everything Clean
It’s an obvious but important piece of advice: make sure everything is neat and tidy at home before your guest arrives.
Nobody wants to stay in an environment with mess and clutter, so make this a priority when you’re planning to have someone stay.
Get Info on Sleeping and Work Schedules
Before your guest arrives, ask them what kind of schedule they’ll be on when it comes to sleeping and/or working.
That way you can make sure they’re able to come and go as they please without feeling like they’re getting in the way.
Prepare Food in Advance
There’s no better way to make someone feel at home than by cooking them a hearty meal.
Preparing food in advance has the advantage of meaning your guest can eat once they arrive. This is especially essential if they’ve had a long journey.
Make Time for Resting
Be aware that your guest may be tired when they arrive. As much as you might want to catch up, be sure to ask them whether they’d like to rest first.
If you don’t, they may feel obliged to stay up chatting when they’re desperate to catch up on sleep.
Add a Thoughtful Touch
Want to really make your guest feel appreciated? Give them a small gift once they arrive.
This could be as simple as some flowers, wine or some chocolate truffles on their pillow as a surprise.
Help Them Carry Their Bags
Your guest may arrive with heavy luggage. If this does happen, give them a hand by helping them to carry the bags from the car to your house, as well as up any stairs.
If they’re not arriving by car, you could also offer to pick them up from a local station or airport to save them having to lug their bags around.
With all these thoughtful touches, your guest is sure to feel right at home.
