Hello World! Welcome Friends! If you’ve ever found yourself stuck in a stall at the public bathroom when the toilet paper dispenser fails to work, you know how frustrating it can be. While this is not normally an issue in homes, automatic toilets with touch-free paper rollers are becoming increasingly common, so it’s important to understand how these dispensers work. In this article, you will discover how automatic toilet dispensers work. So, read on.
Load the Roll Into the Dispenser
Automatic toilet paper dispensers can be electronic or manual. Manual ones basically work the same as those old school hands-free crank dispensers you used to see a lot at gas stations a long time ago. Basically, you put a roll of toilet paper into them and then pull out what you need. Installing electronic dispenser is a bit more complicated. You will need to be careful what type of electronic toilet paper dispenser you buy. Some electronic units are actually controlled by an infrared sensor, which usually installs right above the roll of TP. Also, some electronic units require batteries.
For electronic toilet paper dispensers that use an infrared sensor to control them, this would mean installing it in a way that it can receive the infrared signal from your hand or hand movement in front of it. You will need to install the dispenser right in front of a wall that is free from any objects, such as a metal door handle.
Factors to Consider Before Installing
For one thing, you need to be sure that all your guests can reach the TP dispenser. You also should consider whether or not the dispenser is going to be installed in a place where it will be constantly exposed to steam from a shower, water from a sink, heat from a radiator, etc. All of these factors should go into consideration before you just simply screw the dispenser into a wall and assume it will work. You should do some testing before you install the unit in a permanent spot.
Another important thing is where you want your toilet paper holder to be mounted. The average height of a person is usually 5’9″ or so, so for most people this would mean installing it at a height of approximately 36″ from the ground. If you have a taller toilet paper holder, that means you will have to replace it with one that has a higher mounting point.
Pull Down on the Spring-Loaded Bar to Make Sure it Has a Secure Grip on the Roll of Toilet Paper
If this doesn’t apply to you, then just put the toilet paper in and tighten it nearly all the way until the TP holder won’t budge any more. Then gently pull on a piece of TP. If you’re able to pull on a piece of TP without too much force being required, then don’t tighten it any further.
Test the Dispenser
After it’s installed, test the dispenser by quickly pulling on a piece of TP from underneath it to make sure that you can pull away a piece without too much force being applied to the bar. If this happens, then carefully tighten the spring-loaded bar until it can pull in a sheet of toilet paper without requiring too much force. Also, make sure that the bar can hold onto a piece of TP without quickly slipping out from underneath it. If this happens, you will need to adjust the tension applied to the spring-loaded bar by tightening or loosening the screw that holds the spring-loaded bar in place at its top end (the end opposite to the roll of toilet paper).
If this doesn’t apply to you, then just put the toilet paper in and tighten it nearly until the TP holder doesn’t budge anymore. Then gently pull on a piece of TP. If you’re able to pull on the part of TP without too much force being required, then don’t tighten it any further.
As you can see, automatic toilet paper dispensers are a bit tricky to install. You should carefully consider where you want to mount it and how low or high of a mounting point you’re going to put it at before installing it. All in all, automatic toilet paper dispensers can be very convenient and luxurious to use. But they also aren’t as easy to install as some people make them out to be. If you’re planning to install one yourself at home or somewhere else, do the proper research before installing it. It is quite a nice thing to have in your toilet, so why not?
