Hello World! Welcome Friends! We’ve all glanced at our neighbor’s home in envy, wishing we could decorate our homes in pleasing color palettes and luxurious furniture. The fact of the matter is, renovating a home can be extremely costly. It demands a bunch of highly skilled contractors to redesign, demolish, and decorate an already existing room.
What if I told you that with a little bit of imagination and a small budget, you too can have a gorgeous interior that will spark envy. Here are a few tips and tricks you can apply to your home, to give it an extra bit of pizazz.
Giving Old Kitchen Cabinets a Fresh New Look
The kitchen is an area that most of us spend loads of time in. Looking at the same appliances and cabinets can become quite mediocre. A great remodeling trick doesn’t require any new cabinet or appliance purchases, only a bit of elbow grease.
Use sandpaper to smooth wooden cabinets and remove paint and varnish. After the surface is smooth and clean, you can apply a new wood finish or varnish to create a brand-new look.
For a bolder statement use chalk paint in a popping shade of color and paint over the wood.
Source interesting old cabinet knobs at charity stores or second hand furniture stores. Mix and match them onto the cabinets to give them new handles.
All is not lost if you don’t have the technical skill to completely renovate your kitchen area. Look here for some interesting ideas and inspiration: http://houstonrenovators.com/
Re-arrange Furniture
Most family rooms can turn into a complete chaotic mess after a few years. Instead of purchasing a brand-new living room couch, re-arrange your old furniture to make the area much more spacious.
Work with the overall size and structure of your room to make the most of your space. Only incorporate furniture that is functional within the room. Move unwanted pieces of furniture such as extra tables, drawers, or chairs to another part of the house.
For an extra flair create focal points within the room by making a photo frame collage on one wall of the room. Add new cushions or cozy throws onto old furniture to give them a new look.
If you have a large living space, consider dividing the area into different sections. This will make the room more functional while creating an array of stylized areas.
Consider Becoming a Minimalist
The first thing any professional interior designer and renovator will suggest is decluttering your home. Throw out and donate anything that you haven’t used in, at least, the last 6-8 months. Create a functional organization system where you can put things away. Click here for some decluttering tips.
Your space will become much more inviting when you throw out any old items that doesn’t fit your style anymore.
Fresh Coat of Paint
Any room can be updated with a fresh coat of paint. Try to move out of your comfort zone and choose bold and bright colors that compliments the room. Shy away from typical white and sandy shades and use light greys on room walls.
Use accent colors in striped patterns on one wall of the room to create a modern and eclectic look.
Don’t be scared to add some color onto the ceiling. A dark blue or magenta on a ceiling can create a splendid atmosphere.
If you aren’t a newbie to a brush, why not challenge yourself and create a beautiful mural or even a bordered pattern.
Create Your Own Artwork
Artwork is a great investment, for sure. For some of us spending thousands of dollars on an original painting just isn’t on our bucket list. No worries, create your own easy piece of abstract art.
Purchase a cheap painter’s canvas and acrylic paint or even paint on a piece of wood. Create shapes that inspires your new living room and kitchen and hang it on the wall.
Upcycle
Upcycling is becoming a very popular past time among younger and more experienced designers. And anyone can do it. You can take any old piece of furniture or decorative and breathe some new life into it.
Wash, sand, repaint, reupholster, redesign, and fix old items in your home with materials and leftover paints from the shed.
The saying, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” is extremely applicable to this part. Pick up old doors, frames, and pot plants. Turn it into a wall feature by using decorative decoupage or a fresh coat of paint.
Hiring a professional interior designer and decorator will definitely help you during a renovation process. Especially if they have to install new storage spaces or knock down drywalls.
For all the other rooms that only need a little bit of attention – use some of the above ideas. You’ll be surprised at your inner designer surfacing once you let your imagination flow.
