Hello World! Welcome Friends! A New Year is upon us, and that means new home design trends are rising in popularity and compelling avid home designers to restyle their interior spaces. Yet, if you are already happy with how you have completed the design of your home, you might be looking for simpler resolutions for you to complete in 2023.
Fortunately, there are always ways for you to improve the look, feel and function of your home. Here are a few basic home design resolutions that anyone can make to create a more attractive and comfortable home in the coming year.
Integrate Big, Bold Color
Though neutral tones like beiges, grays and whites dominated for much of the last decade, their prominence in home interior design is beginning to wane. After several years of pandemic keeping people cooped up at home, most people are eager to see some color bring joy and life to their personal spaces. In fact, the aesthetic of maximalism — which involves decorating to the point of excess with an abundance of colors, textures and patterns is on the rise.
Even if you are not ready to fully commit to the maximalist lifestyle, you might resolve to integrate more color into your living spaces this coming year. You can do this by creating an accent wall with paint or wallpaper or by adding small touches of color with curtains, rugs or throw pillows.
Consider the Great Outdoors
Indoor-outdoor living is a major trend in home renovation and one that you might be interested in pursuing in the coming years. However, before you can extend your living spaces into your outdoor area, you need to be certain that your surrounding landscape is attractive and welcoming to you and your guests. You may need to remove dead or dying plants, refresh your ground cover, repair your irrigation and hardscape and perform other necessary maintenance tasks that often get overlooked. It takes surprisingly little effort to transform an outdoor area from drab to fabulous, and you will need to complete that work before your indoor-outdoor space is ready to use.
Invest in Energy-Efficient Appliances
Every year, we inch closer to a point of no return with regards to the climate crisis. With a certain amount of carbon in the atmosphere, the world’s ecosystems will become irreversibly damaged, and humankind will begin to suffer serious ramifications in the form of inhospitable environments, food shortages, natural disasters and more. So much of our response to climate change is dependent on the action of governments and corporations, but you should strive to do your part to reduce your carbon footprint and keep energy expenditure low.
That means updating your home with appliances that utilize fewer resources like energy and water. Installing modern ceiling fans can help you lower the perceived temperature of your interior spaces by up to four degrees at a tiny fraction of the energy use (and cost) of AC units. High-efficiency toilets with dual flush features can reduce the water consumption of each flush by up to half a gallon. You might research different ways to make your home appliances more energy efficient in the New Year.
Visit Homes to Inspire Your Interior Design
Like so many avid home decorators, you might be a dedicated fan of television shows that feature luxurious home renovation. However, many of these shows are filmed months if not years in the past, and almost all of them have unlimited budgets to realize incredible interiors. Thus, if you are only taking inspiration from the homes you see on TV, you are destined to fall in love with outdated designs that are outrageously above your budget.
Instead, you might make a resolution to visit more real-world homes to be inspired by what real homeowners are doing to improve their properties. Many cities and suburbs have a Parade of Homes, or a similar event, in which homeowners proud of their renovations open their homes to the public. You can also visit open houses in your neighborhood or befriend your neighbors to get a sense of how they are updating their properties.
Your New Year design resolutions should be tasks that you can achieve over the coming 12 months. If none of the above resolutions inspire you to improve your home, you can develop your own design resolutions for 2023.

I love the idea of incorporating more bold colors into home decor designs. We’ve seen too much gray and stark white in recent years. Also — energy efficiency is always an important consideration. Thank you for sharing this post in the Talent-Sharing Tuesdays Link-Up 48.
