Hello World! Welcome Friends! As the snow melts during the summer months and the mornings aren’t icy anymore, it can be easy to forget about the cold nights.
However, the summer is the perfect time to make sure that your home is ready for the cooler seasons long before they happen.
The cold weather, sleet, snow, rain, and freezing temperature can often cause a lot of damage to our homes. Often these issues aren’t noticed until the following winter.
So here are six ways that you can proactively prepare your home for winter.
Windows
We expect our energy prices to take a sharp rise in the winter, but sometimes it can be because there are leaks or your windows aren’t well insulated.
Any air leaks will cause you to lose hot air much faster than you might think, and it will mean you are paying much more than you need to on your heating bills.
Do an inspection, and make repairs were required.
Temperature
Maintaining a good temperature in the winter months can be fine art, switching between cooling the stuffy room and keeping everyone warm.
AC Repair and Furnace Repair are two of the key things that can help you to keep a steady temperature in your home.
The AC gets worked extra hard over the summer months, so an inspection is a must on the list of ways to prepare your home for the winter.
Roof
With the summer comes a lot of dry days, and unless you find a nest of pests in the loft, it is unlikely you will notice any leaks or damage until it starts to rain again.
A roof inspection booked at the start of the summer and a gutter cleaning will mean you can have any of the required repairs long before you need them.
If you are able to see your roof from the ground, you can usually spot anything that is curling, shifted, or otherwise damaged.
Ceiling fans
If you have a ceiling fan, one of the best ways to save cash as you head into winter is to use the reverse button. It flips the blades so that the heat is pushed back down into the room. Since hot air rises, this can reduce your heating spend.
Turn Off Exterior Faucets
Water in pipes that have not been emptied can freeze, causing pipes to break as the ice grows. Begin by removing any garden hoses and emptying any remaining water from taps.
Turn off the shut-off valve inside your home if you don’t have frost-proof faucets (most homes older than ten to fifteen years don’t).
Winter Essentials
Over the winter, we can never be sure if we will be snowed in or struggle to get to the stores. One of the best ways to winter-proof your home is to make sure you have stocked up on plenty of winter essentials. Think of foods that last a long time, like tins and packets.
Prepare the surrounding areas by the walls of your home too.
