Hello World! Welcome Friends! Keeping a clean and tidy house can be a challenge at the best of times, especially if you have young children or a large household. It can sometimes feel as if your home and the possessions in it are conspiring to get lost or disorganized or dirty as soon as you turn your back. There are regular posts on various social media channels that have celebrities showing off their perfectly organized and arranged home with matching baskets for their linens or neatly stashed jars in a pantry. If these images fill you with longing and envy, here are a few tips on how to transform your own home into the organized paradise of your dreams.
Give Your Belongings Homes
If you want everything in your home to have its own place, you will need to know what items you have and where makes the most sense for them to be stored. For example, are you always hunting for scissors but can never seem to find any when you need them, even though you know there should be three sets in your home? When you designate a home for an item, make sure it is somewhere you would automatically think to look for it when you next find yourself in need of it. To keep this method sustainable, you will also need to learn the habit of returning said item to its home whenever you are finished using it.
Only Keep What You Need or Love
One of the biggest reasons so many people struggle with mess and clutter is because they find it difficult to get rid of their belongings, even if they don’t use them anymore. This doesn’t mean that everyone should become a strict minimalist and own only thirty possessions, but by reducing the number of items in your home, you will have fewer objects to organize and store, saving you time and frustration. If you end up deciding to get rid of some belongings, consider donating to a veterans charity or other form of good cause. This reduces waste while improving the lives of other people.
Avoid ‘What If’ Purchases
‘What if’ purchases are those you spot at the store just as you begin to leave or find yourself ordering online when you’re tired. If you didn’t set out with the intention of buying it or you had to convince yourself that the purchase was justified by saying something like ‘what if my can opener breaks?’, then does it truly deserve a place in your home? Be vigilant about what you spend your money on and only introduce new belongings into your home if you know that they will either be well used or well loved.
Allow for Your Own Level of Mess
Being organized can make your daily life so much simpler but striving for unrealistic perfection can actually get in the way. Try to find your own balance and a level of disorderliness that you are willing to accept.
