Hello World! Welcome Friends! In many cases, having a routine for your life is important. Routines provide comfort and stability, and they can make you feel at peace throughout the day. Whether it’s getting up early to go for a run, or enjoying your morning coffee in front of the fire, there are some things that just feel good when you do them every day.
But, it’s also important not to let yourself fall into too much of a routine. Sometimes, pushing yourself in certain areas of life, and even getting out of your comfort zone, can be extremely beneficial.
That includes finding your way out of food ruts, too.
Do you have the same things for dinner on rotation, week after week? Would you consider yourself to be a picky eater, or just not adventurous with food? No matter the reason, working yourself out of a food rut and breaking your mealtime routines can help you to practice healthier eating habits, boost your nutrition, and learn more about different foods and cultures.
So, if you’re tired of having the same dishes week after week, use this opportunity to break out of your routine with these helpful and creative ideas.
Be a Restaurant Copycat
One of the ways people fall into food ruts is by eating out all of the time. That might be quick and convenient, but it can get expensive very quickly. And, it may not be very healthy! So, why not try creating some of your favorite restaurant dishes at home?
Instead of getting pizza delivered again, try making your own with pre-made dough. You can make one large pizza for the family to share, or get really creative with a “pizza bar” by setting up a bunch of different topping options and splitting the dough into mini pizzas, so everyone can create their own. It’s a great way to try new ingredients and get your kids to load up on veggies.
Eat Across the Globe
Try cuisine from different cultures to jazz up your dinners and expand your tastes. It can be fun to choose a different country each week and try at least one dish from that country that you’ve never had before. You could be having authentic carne asada from Mexico one week, or a delicious calamari recipe, like this one from The Mediterranean Dish the next week! If you love brunch, try making Shakshuka from Israel. The possibilities are endless, and it can be fun to learn about different cultures through their food.
Vary Where You Buy Your Groceries
It’s just as easy to fall into a grocery store routine as it is to fall into a food rut. If you constantly shop at the same place and know exactly where everything is, you’re never going to make changes or be inspired to try anything new.
So, switch up your shopping experience from time to time. Go to your local farmers market for fresh produce, unique homemade jams and sauces, and freshly-baked bread that will always trump the stuff from a bag on a shelf!
You can get inspired by new food, or at least curious when it comes to trying it in a recipe. So, let yourself go exploring when it comes to grocery shopping.
Yes, it’s easy to fall into a food rut. But, it can be just as easy to get out of it with a little creativity and determination. Try a couple of these ideas to add more variety to your diet, and expand your palate!

Toodles,
[…] Instead of going to the grocery store and purchasing pre-made foods, cooking in-season fruits and vegetables, and then freezing or canning, it all makes for one less trip to the store. […]
