Hello World! Welcome Friends! There is nothing more exciting than the first breeze of the summer with the sunshine streaming through the house. The mornings are getting lighter earlier and the nights are lasting longer: summer is on the way and you have to get ready for the season. If you are fortunate enough to have a pool in your backyard, you need to make a point of getting that ready as early as possible. You don’t want to be staring out of the window at an unused pool because you didn’t have enough time to get it properly prepared.
A swimming pool is exciting to have. You should already have someone coming out to do your pool service through the warmer months, but a service isn’t the same as a huge clean, right? The good news is that with a little effort, you can have a shiny, sparkling pool ready for the season. Let’s take a look at how you can get your pool ready for summer:
- Clear out any leaves and winter debris. The first thing to do is to remove the pool cover and use a long skimmer to get all of the floating debris that has gathered. Even with a pool cover, debris can make its way underneath and sit on top of the water. When you do remove the pool cover, drain off any accumulated water so that you can avoid contamination.
- Balance the chemicals in the water. Your pool has to be effectively balanced if you want to make sure that you can safely swim in it. If you don’t treat your pool during the cooler months, then you might find that there is an abundance of bacteria, viruses and algae buildup in the water. It doesn’t matter whether you have a great filtration system or not; without balance, your water is going to go green and you need to get rid of it. You need to balance the pH level, check the total alkalinity and test the calcium levels, too.
- Check for any faults. Take a look at the plumbing and filtration systems of the pool and sese whether there are any issues. You need to know that it’s working properly and if you don’t know what you’re really looking for, that’s where you need to call in a professional for a pool service. Listen to the pump and report to the pool service team whether there are any abnormal noises.
- Increase how often you use your filtration system. The pump will be running for longer in the warmer months, so you need to make a point of turning it up so that the entire pool water volume can be turned over at least once a day. Most pool pumps will run to the size of your pool, and usually that’ll go for around eight to ten hours.
- Top up the water. The water levels easily drop over the winter season, so when topping up, make sure that it sits halfway up the skimmer box and leave jumping in until the next day. This gives the water a chance to combine, allowing the new and old water to combine properly.
