Hello World! Welcome Friends! Welcoming a new baby home and into your life is a wonderful event. Becoming new parents can be nerve-wracking but is also a very rewarding role to take on.
Once you find out you’re pregnant it’s a perfect time and opportunity to start planning for your future and your family. There are preparations you’re going to want to make to ensure a smooth transition occurs in your household. Enjoy this time planning and getting ready because it will go by quickly and before you know it your baby will be here.
Set up the Nursery
You can get your home and life ready to welcome a new baby by focusing on setting up the nursery. You want to make sure your little one has a safe and quiet place to rest and a room you can go to rock them back to sleep in the middle of the night. You may be at a loss about what items you need in your nursery and that is necessary. Refer to this baby furniture buying guide to determine the must-haves and help you design the perfect spot for your baby to sleep, play, and grow. Also, you might want to paint the room if it needs it before you set it up with new furniture.
Talk to Your Spouse about Responsibilities
Your life and schedule will change drastically when the baby arrives. Their arrival will require you to focus on him or her and their needs before all else. It might be a lot to take on and handle initially so that’s why you and your spouse must be on the same page. Sit down and discuss roles and responsibilities and what tasks each person will be helping out with, at least in the beginning. For instance, you may be too tired to clean or do laundry so you may need your husband to step in and perform these chores while you rest after taking care and feeding your baby.
Discuss Your Finances & Work Schedule
Another factor when welcoming a new baby home and into your life is your finances and work schedule. Think about when and if you’ll go back to your job and what your income is going to look like in each scenario. You may want to start planning for child care options early since many places fill up fast if you’re going outside the home. It’s in your best interest to create a new budget you can follow and stick to once the baby arrives to confirm you and your family is in a good place financially. Babies and kids are expensive and you need to plan for their needs.
Take Care of Yourself
You may not have a lot of “me” time or moments to yourself when you first welcome your new baby home. However, you must stay well and take good care of yourself even though you’re busy and tired. For instance, hop in the shower, take naps when the baby naps, and get outside of the house every so often. You want to make sure that you stay healthy and nurture your mental health during this life-changing event and transition to being a new mom. Find positive and useful ways to deal with and manage your stress so you can keep it in check.
Prepare Meals in Advance
Even if you like to cook you may not have the time or energy for it once your baby is here. It’s wise to think ahead and prepare meals in advance of their arrival. If friends or family members ask what help you need, let them know that you would appreciate having more food and meals around. They’ll likely be more than happy to pitch in and bring you some home-cooked dinners. There are also many excellent freezer meals you can make before the baby arrives and have ready to pull out and eat them as you need.
Be Ready to Document the Special Moments
You can also get your home and life ready to welcome a new baby by being ready to document all the special moments that are about to unfold. For instance, purchase and have a baby book ready that you can write in and put pictures in to look back on. Also, get in the habit of taking videos on your phone that you can keep and cherish forever. They change quickly so make sure you’re prepared to capture all these moments and milestones. You can never have too many photos to share and print so have your camera ready to go as you welcome your new baby home and into your life.

Loving Life says
I love these ideas! Having a new baby can be overwhelming and exhausting, so preparing beforehand can be incredibly helpful. I would add a few things that could be helpful for some parents. Consider having your groceries delivered so that you don’t have to leave the house and your baby. That way you can get some fresh food with minimal effort and time. It may also be worthwhile to spend the money to have someone come over and clean for you. It would be a stress reliever and you can be confident that your baby is in a safe and healthy environment. You should especially consider having your carpets professionally cleaned since that is likely where your baby will spend a significant amount of time. Just some thoughts from a recent new mom! (:
