Hello World! Welcome Friends! So, you’ve taken delivery of your amazing new AGA range, you’ve found a supply of cheap home heating oil to fuel it with and you’re ready to face everything that winter can throw at you.
Heating your home with an AGA is easy – you just let it do its thing – but cooking with one of these ranges is another matter. Taking the time to work it out and trying out recipes and techniques is more than worth the effort, though, so here’s a primer to whet your appetite.
Grilling with your AGA
If you’re into steaks, a full English brekkie or just griddled courgette slices, your boiling plate and a griddle pan will team up to cook these to perfection. This plate gives out intense heat so you can sear the outside of that steak in moments, maintaining the juicy insides; it’s also perfect for making short work of grilling vegetables, frying eggs… you get the picture!
There’s also the top part of the roasting oven, which will blast vegetables and meats in a matter of minutes, giving you healthy flash-baked (as it were) meals as often as you want.
Boiling with your AGA
Boiling is an integral part of cooking and this is one of the best things about an AGA – the boiling plate makes it so much more efficient and faster that your vegetables cook quicker, retaining more nutrients, color and flavor, and you can keep larger quantities of pasta at a rolling boil. Perfect. Stir-fries are a cinch here, too.
Roasting with your AGA
You haven’t had a roast until you’ve had an AGA roast! These ovens use radiant heat from all sides, which helps to prevent the meat from shrinking or drying out. You may also find that you can finally make crispy roast potatoes that are fluffy on the inside…there’s nothing better.
Baking with your AGA
Again, the uniform radiant heat means that cakes and breads rise evenly. Admittedly, you’ll almost certainly need a bit of practice before you master it, but once you have got the hang of AGA baking, you’ll become an addict!
Steaming with your AGA
You might be somewhat surprised by this, but you can steam food in the simmering oven of your AGA. One of the downsides of steaming is the water vapour all over the kitchen, but this is done away with with the AGA. Moreover, you’ll retain a lot more of the flavor, whether it’s vegetables or a steamed pudding.
Simmering with your AGA
Simmering is catching on in the world of cooking, as more and more people turn to slow food. You can make soups, casseroles and stews on your AGA by using either the simmering oven or the simmering plate. There are quite a few heat settings to choose from, which, as you know, produces different results.
Everyone has a standalone slow cooker these days, but if you have an AGA, you have a built-in one! You can prep a roast or stew, pop it into the simmering oven and forget about it until it’s time to eat. You can even cook overnight if you need to, which is perfect for your busy household.
Thanks for stopping by! Have a lovely day/night depending on where you are in the world! Go with God and remember to be kind to one another!
Toodles,
