Hello World! Welcome Friends! Please join me in welcoming Christine Hill to the blog tonight. She has some great information to help us get our yards ready for Summer parties. Take it away, Christine.
Now that it’s April, we’re seeing the world open up. The first signs of spring are calling us outdoors, despite the intermittent storms and chilly weather of March. That means that right now is the perfect time to start planning for summer fun. If you’re someone who likes to entertain, it’s time to do some yard work so that you’re ready for anything from a bridal shower to a backyard barbecue.
Here are a few projects that it’s time to put on your list in order to make you the master of outdoor entertaining:
Redo the Patio
Many decks need to be refinished regularly–especially after the winter. Regular maintenance will keep your deck in good shape, for longer. And since a deck or patio is the essential bridge between the outdoors and indoors, it’s the first thing that you want to take care of as you’re prepping for summer parties. Even better, spring is the perfect time to get to work out there, as this article points out. You’ll be able to spend the time doing labor without being subject to the scorching heat that will follow the springtime months.
Of course, while you’re doing maintenance, it’s also the perfect time to think about some fun extras that will make it an even better space for entertaining. For example, you might also install some nods to an outdoor kitchen, streamline the pathway between the kitchen and the patio, and add decorative elements that will make the patio more comfortable and colorful.
Install a Fire Pit
How do you turn an evening chilling at home into an instant party? A fire pit, of course! Just think about it, you and your family sitting around talking after dinner, or friends coming over for drinks after an evening out. If you need more reasons, check out this post. And before you put up your hands saying you can’t afford to install a fire pit, take a look at some of the cool assemble-it-yourself options. You can choose whether you’ll use a gas line and fire glass, or whether you’ll just build old-fashioned wood fires in the pit.
Once you have a fire pit in, it’s time to start brainstorming for all the great snacks that you’ll have outside. S’mores, cinnamon balls, banana boats… the camping desserts are endless!
Wire in Lights and Music
Whether you’re planning on just having a laid-back soiree with a few friends, or you’re opening up your doors for a live show or reception, setting up the proper acoustics and lights will help you be ready to go at a moment’s notice. If shows are a frequent thing, you might even want to consider extras like stomp lights and stage lights when you’re wiring up the electricity. Even doing something as simple as putting speakers throughout the yard will make all the difference in the atmosphere of an event. And remember that while a floodlight from your garage is really handy for evening chores or pickup basketball games, you’ll want more diverse, soft options for lighting during a party. Install path lighting and set up hooks and plugs for easy-hang lanterns and fairy lights.
Incorporate More Seating
With most events at someone’s house, seating is one of the most common problems. We tend to have enough for 10-20 people on average, and as soon as the guest list expands beyond that, we’re at a loss. So, when you’re looking at yard projects, think about structures that can serve as seating for events. This might mean making some DIY benches, or just extending the ledge of a retaining wall so that people can easily set themselves down. Accordingly, if you are considering extending a retaining wall in your backyard, then reaching out to a Waukesha Retaining Wall Brick Supplier such as Champion Brick can help you to plan your next steps.
Potted Plants
Potted plants are a host’s best friend. They allow you to frame an area, cover up unsightly views, and make a bland corner look lush and appealing. Best of all, they’re instantly adaptable, and you can move them around to wherever suits you. So, in order to prep your yard for summer parties, consider building up your collection of potted plants. You might buy them from the garden supply store next time you’re in, or just start growing some of your favorite plants in pots yourself. Use a frame if you want to get more height on a climber, and don’t be afraid to mix and match.
