Hello World! Welcome Friends! If you do not like the idea of setting traps to kill mice in your home, you may be thinking about getting a cat to do the dirty work instead. Welcoming a cat into your home may be a good idea because they can be good companions; but it will not solve your problem with mice.
The only way to solve this type of problem is to take action to get rid of mice from your home. If you do not want to use traditional traps that kill, you can use humane traps that contain the mice so that you can release them away from your home. The problem with this is that they could make their way back to your property, or enter someone else’s home and cause issues there instead.
Why are mice such a problem?
Mice can be deceptively cute, but they can be disruptive and dangerous if they are unwanted visitors in your home. They chew on everything from paper to wood and wiring; left to their own devices they can cause a lot of damage.
Mice also carry diseases such as salmonella and lyme disease (through ticks that they carry). You and your family do not want to be exposed to these issues.
Why will a cat not help?
Having a cat around the house can be good for you, but it’s unlikely to get rid of your mouse problem. There are several reasons for this.
- Cats and mice do not hang out in the same places. Mice tend to stick to crawl spaces and other confined areas where cats do not go. This makes it easy for mice to escape the clutches of a cat.
- Not all cats love to hunt. This may surprise you but it’s true. If you bring a cat into your home, they may want to play with the mice or they may run away from them.
- Cats are prone to infestation by the fleas and ticks that can be found on mice. This is not a pleasant situation to deal with.
- Mice reproduce far too quickly for one or two cats to cope with.
So, adding a cat to your family may not be a bad idea but it’s not going to be a miracle solution to an issue with mice. You need to use some form of traps to deal with the invaders, or bring in the professionals if necessary. You also need to make it difficult for mice to get into your home in the first place. One of the best ways to do this is to make sure that there are no gaps or cracks in the exterior walls of your property. Mice are tiny and they can squeeze through a very small space. Filling in any access spots helps to keep mice out and helps your home to remain a rodent free space, once you have dealt with any current unwanted visitors.
