Hello World! Welcome Friends! When moving into a new home there are plenty of things to try and remember on top of your everyday duties. For example, setting up all your new bills, changing your address on everything, unpacking, finding new places for all your stuff, and meeting your new neighbors. Sometimes with all the excitement, you can forget to do a few easy steps that will make the whole moving process run a lot smoother and stop any annoying scenarios from cropping up later, which you might kick yourself for forgetting. Here are a few examples to help you on your journey.
Take Utility Meter Readings
Often big disputes can happen over utility usage when properties exchange hands, but there is an easy solution to this problem. Even if you don’t have time on the day of your move to phone up the utility companies, all you need to do is take a picture of the relevant meters with all the readings. This way you have a time-stamped image with all the readings from the day you are liable for the usage, and if any complications arise you will have some solid proof.
Prepare Your Home Before Unpacking
Something you could consider doing before unpacking and creating clutter in your new home is to try and do some home improvements. All your stuff is packed up and easily movable, so it might be worthwhile to live out of boxes for the sake of a few weeks and think of what could be easier to accomplish with an already empty home. This could include changing carpets, decorating, and even renovating areas of your home. Other important areas that can be easily forgotten and turn into larger jobs if not looked at sooner rather than later are your attic space and lawn care.
Changing All the Locks On Your Doors
The safety and security of you and your loved ones within the home are very important topics, and something that a lot of people will forget or not bother doing is changing the locks. However, it is important that this is done as there is no way of knowing how many previous residents have keys to your property, and it will give you peace of mind, and increase your safety and security.
Hit the Ground Running With Essentials
Before moving in, ensure that you have all your essentials packed away separately and easily accessible, you can even take these boxes with you in your car rather than lose them inside of the removal truck. These items could include medicines, clothes, extremely valuable or sentimental objects, fragile ornaments, and hygiene-related products such as toothbrushes, body wash, and deodorant. This way you can move in, without feeling like you need to unpack everything straight away. You can take your time knowing that you are able to look after, eat, wash, and clothe yourself easily.
Of course, there are other things to consider when moving into a new home, but hopefully, these ideas or reminders will be of use to you.
