Hello World! Welcome Friends! There’s much to rail against in the modern world. However, it’s important not to go too deep into the negative side of things. Not only can negativity be a corrosive force, but the negativity isn’t entirely justified. The world is in much better shape than people typically realize. Now, and of course, no-one’s going to say that we live in a perfect world. But for some factors of life, things have simply never been better. For instance, did you know that crime is close to an all-time low? Or that this is the safest the world has ever been? Not many people do, but it’s true.
In this blog, we’re going to run through a few things that many of us take for granted but which make living in the modern world a pretty amazing experience.
Easy Access To Food
If you ever resent other people and wish that they’d all just go away, then just think of this: how difficult would it be to eat if you had to catch and prepare all of your meals? These days, we’re not plagued by threats of bad harvests like communities were in the olden days. We’re not even impacted by seasonal access to food. We can have virtually any ingredient we want, at any time of the year. And all we need to do is go to the store. It’s a luxury that people that lived hundreds of years ago would find amazing.
Comfortable Living
And then there’s the whole matter of our living arrangements. Can you imagine living in a time when there was no running water, no electricity, no heating? These are relatively modern inventions that are now commonplace, but we shouldn’t lose sight of how much they elevate the human experience. The human ingenuity behind electricity should never be forgotten. It is incredible that we have it. To learn about how wondrous it is, check out the writings of Randy Ryneski – he writes about the systems that underpin the electrical network. You might just be a little more impressed the next time you switch on a light in your home!
Exploring the Globe
Imagine if you were to travel to another country in 1700. Actually, imagine you were to travel to another state in 1700. Today, it’s as simple as hopping on a plane or driving. Back then? It was a life-threatening experience. You’d have to wave goodbye to your family and just hope that you’d see them again. Visiting Europe in 1700 would take months. Today, it takes hours.
Greater Healthcare
Finally, there’s the matter of healthcare. If you’re unwell, you can (hopefully) visit a hospital, and they’ll more or less take care of you. Or at least, they’ll give you a fighting chance to overcome your medical condition. At most points in the past, that just wasn’t the case. Even if doctors did have a treatment, it was likely going to be a pretty unpleasant experience.
Remember this the next time the state of the world gets you down!
