Hello World! Welcome Friends! The kitchen is finally finished! When we looked at this house to purchase, we were concerned with how dark the house was. But, with the magic of paint we have achieved a much lighter and brighter look. Get ready to see way too many pictures!
Before we dive in, a big thank you must go out to Linda at Calling it Home for organizing this lovely challenge. There is nothing quite like a deadline to light a fire under you know where.
Let’s take a look back at what the space looked like when we began this adventure.
There is definitely a lot of storage in this kitchen!
Painting the family room, breakfast room and kitchen really did wonders for making the space much, much brighter. On the walls, Sherwin Williams Gray Screen and on the cabinets, Extra White also from Sherwin Williams. All of the existing rubbed bronze hardware was painted with Rustoleum Metallic Gold with a clear coat of Poly to protect the paint from rubbing off
We would have loved to change the backsplash and tile floor, but it wasn’t in the budget this go around.
The one thing I didn’t find was a chandelier to go over my sink. I couldn’t find one that was the right size to my liking. However, I think I may have a small one that I bought for the former house that I never used. I just need to find it in my “storage/catch-all” room.
I still get questions about my stenciled wall that I completed for the Spring One Room Challenge. Click HERE if you missed the Reveal of our “fancy” Breakfast Nook.
I just had to share a shot of the pretty Currier and Ives setting that I mixed with the Pottery Barn Luna Brushed Gold flatware.
Okay, now for a funny story. All of my girlfriends who have seen the kitchen during the makeover process would ooooh and ahhh over the paint transformation. But, the minute I showed them my under the sink organization, each and every one of them gasped and declared this was the best thing yet!
These drawers from Amazon are perfect to house my sponges and microfiber cloths.
On top of the drawer system are pretty glass bottles that hold glass cleaner and all-purpose cleaner.
Behind the center post, I used containers I found at Target that I used to house disposable gloves, SOS pads, dish tablets, and scratch pads. Here’s a tip regarding the SOS pads: to save space and keep the mess down, I cut the pads into fourths. Once I use a little SOS pad, I simply toss it away. Thus saving me time trying to keep the container clean.
In the wire basket, I have hand soap refill as well as other cleaners I don’t use that often. The bottom drawer slides out to make getting items in the back of the drawer a breeze.
Our coffee/tea station is located next to the refrigerator to be in close proximity to the milk, cream, and water.
Speaking of refrigerators, I decided to organize our snack drawer and the upper portion of our refrigerator for the challenge. The snack drawer consists of bagged cucumbers, almonds, celery, grapes, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, chicken breast slices and provolone cheese. Perfect for grab and go snacks.
I transferred our milk, cream and orange juice into these containers. I was amazed at how much space this freed up in the door.
I know, it looks like we have no food. This picture was taken the day before grocery shopping day. It doesn’t always look this bare. The top shelf is for leftovers, while the second shelf has water and more chicken breast and cheese snacks. I’m loving the water containers, can drink organizers, and my fave: the egg holders!
The fire was lit to chase the chill in the air away.
I would really like to replace the granite as well, but with the new paint, it doesn’t look so bad.
I love pomegranates! They are messy, but oh, so delicious!
How do you like the wall gate? I was so happy Grandin Road was able to get a replacement out to me quick since the first one was damaged in transit.
So, that’s it for this One Room Challenge! Next up is Christmas decorating! I’d rather just sleep for now, but we must press on!
