Hello World! Welcome Friends! I know it seems that it has taken me forever to finish the Entry Hall! And, you’re right, it has! Let me remind you what it looked like when we moved in. If you would like a refresher on the house, click HERE to take the tour.
The majority of the work was painting the walls, ceiling and trim. You know how much I “love” painting ceilings! Well, the first part of the Entry Hall had a dark brown ceiling which had to go. This particular section has a 14ft ceiling with the second section of the Entry Hall having a 12ft ceiling. So, basically all of the ceilings in the house have to be painted. Once you start in one area, the rest will eventually have to be painted to be cohesive.
I apologize for having every single light on in the Entry Hall and Dining Room. Without the lights on, the hall is so very dark and I’m definitely not a professional photographer.
To the left are the Stairs and the Dining Room is on the right looking back towards the front door. The Study is through the double doors in the first section of the Entry Hall. In the Dining Room you can see the old previous paint with the lovely baby diarrhea color on the trim. I will list all paint, lighting, hardware and decor sources on a separate post next week, because this post is going to be LONG!
In this shot, I turned off the overhead lights so you could get an idea of what the lantern chandelier looks like. Also, you can see how beefed up the molding is. I think there are might be 4 rooms total in the house that don’t have the beefed up molding. I have resigned myself to the fact, that I will be doing a lot of painting in this house except for the Great Room. That will definitely have to be hired out since the ceiling is 22 ft.
Also, Greg and I have decided to keep the tile flooring that is in the Dining Room, Study, Kitchen, Back Hall, and Bathrooms. After living with it for some time, we’ve come to really like it! So, no need to save up for new floors, unless we replace the carpet in the bedrooms. More money for furniture and decor! Yay!
The china hutch with its painted interior sits next to the coat closet. The China Hutch Transformation was one of my favorite makeovers I have done. The Planter that holds a happy Amaryllis was a Goodwill Find back in 2011 when I first started blogging and Chloe was a little bitty girl! Sniff!
We hung a new light fixture in the Dining Room as well. All of the Interior Doors except for the Front Door and the Study Doors are all the baby diarrhea paint color. So, of course those will be painted this pretty blue color that you see on the Coat Closet Door. I forgot to take a picture of the interior of the Coat Closet. Yes, even the interior got a makeover with fresh paint on the walls, trim and shelf. I painted the shelf the same blue color as the door. Also, we switched out the hardware to a pretty gold.
The Hardware on the China Hutch got an update with a fresh coat of gold paint. I love how the Hardware on the Hutch ties in with the new Hardware on the Coat Closet.
The first section of the Entry Hall was probably the reason for such a delay in getting the space competed. I knew I wanted to hang this mirror above the new Ethan Allen chest, but I went back and forth for months about the red color. Red wasn’t one of the colors I had in mind for the house color scheme. But, I decided to drape one of my curtain panels over the blue door with the mirror leaning up against the door and it completely changed my mind about painting the red mirror another color.
You remember this fabric! These curtains were part of the One Room Challenge Breakfast Nook Makeover I did at our former house.
The Chest is the Eastgate Chest from Ethan Allen. It fits perfectly in this spot with just the right amount of room for the door to swing wide open. Oh, also it took me forever to buy a rug. I went back and forth on color schemes, but once I decided to keep the red mirror I thought this rug from Ballard Designs would be perfect. It grounds the space and ties in nicely with the hardwood flooring as well as the tile flooring.
I love everything about this chest. It’s perfect for storing our extra throws for the Family Room.
You will not believe where I found the lamps…Amazon! The black was a departure for me, but I love how they coordinate with the hardware on the chest.
The bowl from Mary & Martha sits on top of some of my favorite books all with touches of red.
The details on the lamps are so pretty!
Do you remember this little table? This was the very first makeover I did for my very First Blog Post using Annie Sloan Chalk paint back in late Summer of 2011.
This is a temporary spot for the little table. I have a new umbrella stand ordered, but it is backordered until June. So, I thought this little pretty would make a sweet stand in while waiting for the umbrella stand.
These are pencil and ink drawings of Southern Illinois University where I received my Masters degree. I love the wood frames that have a touch of gold.
The Front Door also got new hardware to dress her up a bit.
Cozi (one of our cats) loves this new rug from Ballard Designs. I find her frequently throughout the day lounging away on this pretty rug.
And, I just could not resist this chunky door stopper! They were pricey, but on my goodness…I was in love!
Oh, you sexy beast!
Well that’s it! Good Lord, this was a long post! Late next week, I will write a post dedicated to all of the sources in the Entry Hall.
I would love to hear what you think about our spruced up Entry Hall!

Your entry is so lovely. I covet that mirror and I’m all over the doorstop too. Then there is the hutch, which is stunning. You know me, I love color so that the green interior makes my heart happy. Good things sometimes need to evolve and yours in a beautiful evolution.

Chloe, beautiful choices for your entry makeover! I really love the Ethan Allen chest. The entire combination of the lighting, rug, lamps and mirror send off a very nice traditional look with Asian flair! Believe it or not, I noticed those door stops right away, in that first photo where you mention the china hutch. They’re such an upgrade from those funky little cheap things!
Lots of work involved there, I can see, with all the trim and those high ceilings. You’ll be smart to hire out the family room, and a better woman than I would be to have painted what you did!
Great work, now you can enjoy each time you enter and leave the house!

Thank you so much, Rita! I’m over the moon about the door stops…it really is the little things, right? Hope you have a beautiful week!

That little table by the door is adorable. (your first makeover in 2011) It just adds a sweet charm to that area.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. I am enjoying seeing your photos. Thank you for sharing!

wed to say lovely, but that is an understatement, I think saying ‘superb’ with a french accent would be more like it. I love the color on the entry… well thought off and thanks for sharing, God bless
