Hello World! Welcome Friends! Is it time for a total kitchen renovation? Maybe you’re just looking for some redecorating tips. Either way, your kitchen needs an update and we’re here to help.
We all want our space to look nice and expensive, but we don’t all have “nice and expensive” money. While you’re sitting at your counter gazing longingly at your favorite home and garden websites thinking “how can I make my kitchen look expensive”, we might be able to help you out.
You don’t need to shell out big bucks to get an elegant look to your favorite room in the house. Keep reading to learn how you can get the look of an expensive kitchen on your budget.
1. Add a Fresh Coat of Paint
Sometimes all it takes to bring a kitchen from dingy to darling is a fresh coat of paint on the walls or cabinets.
A total cabinet renovation is going to be expensive. If that’s not in your budget, some bright and consistent paint might be the way to go.
Do you have cabinets that you hate? You know the kind; they’re rough around the edges and they’re either an awful cheap wood print or a terribly dated color. Maybe they’re covered in scratches or stains.
Why not try to improve them before getting rid of them altogether? Picking a cool white or black paint can be great for a modern look, whereas bright colors can give the modern vintage style that’s totally trending.
2. Replace a Focal Point Appliance
Replacing everything in your kitchen isn’t very budget-friendly, but what about replacing one thing that everyone sees? Get a “statement item”, so to speak.
This can be in the form of a totally vintage stove, a pizza oven, a new french-door refrigerator, or an apron front farm sink.
You can work the rest of the kitchen around whatever new appliance or piece that you’ve brought into the home to get a completely new look.
3. Invest in Adhesive Counter Covers
New counters? Expensive. Adhesive counter covers? Completely affordable.
These go by several different names, but they’re basically sets of contact paper meant to cover counters or tables to give them a whole new look.
Some of them look like brick, while others look almost identical to marble or granite. Why not give your kitchen the marble counter experience without marble counter prices?
It won’t look identical to the real thing, but if you’re looking for a change, this is a great way to do it. Pick a style that matches your newly painted cabinets and enjoy your fresh new look.
4. Upcycle Some Decor
Kitchens aren’t known for being overly decoration-heavy, but why not?
While it’s expensive to buy all new decorations, upcycling is a fun way to bring some old things to a new room.
Whether you’re using your own old objects, or you’re thrifting your new decor, there are endless opportunities to repurpose something old into something awesome.
Consider making cheap old furniture into a new wine bar or bar cart. Paint a bunch of old picture frames and add chalkboards to make chore lists or meal plan boards.
You’re not limited by what you can buy; you’re limited by what you can imagine.
5. Add a Statement Wall or Backsplash
Maybe painting a whole wall sounds like a lot of work. We get it.
A statement wall is a fun way to add a modern twist to your kitchen.
You can do this with paint, but kitchens also do well with tile backsplashes. You can do this in several ways.
You can get real decorative tiles to stick onto the walls, or if you’re feeling a bit more temporary, you can get stick-on tiles. Many people use these for a quick way to cover bad flooring in apartments, but you can also use them to rework a bad backsplash.
If you get bored with it, it’s easier to swap out your style when you’re ready for another change.
And if you don’t want to go for the tiling option, you can create a statement wall with colorful wallpaper. You can choose from a bright color to geometric patterns, floral designs, or even textured wallpapers that mimic the look of brick or wood.
Wallpaper can be particularly effective in the kitchen when used sparingly, such as on a feature wall or as a backdrop behind open shelves.
Not only does it offer a chance to express your personal style, but it also provides a visually striking contrast against kitchen cabinetry and appliances.
6. Replace the Handles
Did you know that you can just swap out your cabinet and drawer handles without swapping out the actual cabinets and drawers? This can be a lifechanging realization for people who can’t stand their dated cabinets.
Between this tip and the painting tip, you can have an entirely revamped kitchen in a matter of days.
Get yourself down to the hardware store and find a set of handles that feels right. Angular and smooth handles are great for a modern look, and decorative handles bring out the vintage in any kitchen.
7. Change Up Your Lighting
There are lighting trends every year, and while they’re not often followed by the average person (who can keep up?) they can be an affordable way to make an update.
Hanging lights, mason jar lights, and clear glass lights are all a great replacement for a dated chandelier or dingy flat kitchen light.
These lights are chic, affordable, and flexible. While the mason jars suit a farmhouse vibe, the other modern hanging light styles can suit any kitchen.
You might have a bit of a project on your hands when it comes to wiring, but it won’t be too expensive.
