Hello World! Welcome Friends! Most households hire the services of a domestic cleaner these days. However, hiring a professional does not necessarily mean that you can wash your hands off and relax. At least, in the first few days, you have a vital role to play. In this write-up, let us find out
- Your role when a domestic cleaner is employed
- What to expect from a cleaner?
So, let us take one sub-topic at a time
Your role when a domestic cleaner is employed
The first day the domestic cleaner comes, do the following-
- Arrange for a walk through the entire house. That will give an idea to the cleaner what he or she is expected to do and the areas to attend.
- Do not go overboard as far as expectations are concerned. Be realistic and let them know what you are expecting from the services.
- Decide upon the duration for which the professional will be present at your address.
- For the first few days, find out the time it takes to cover individual rooms while cleaning. Remember, assessing the time that it will take to clean each room is vital as you can plan out the work schedule accordingly if you know how to divide the available time for different chores. Professionals from companies such as Done and Dusted Domestic can help you in this regard too.
- If you find that they have not done something correctly, you can gently remind the professional (perhaps it slipped out of their mind). But do not get panic-stricken and react.
By following the above, you are sure to share a healthy and good working relationship with the domestic cleaner every time you hire their services.
What to expect from a cleaner
Although, most of the domestic cleaners are well trained, do not expect them to get your house in shape overnight. Being new to the job, they will take time to get acclimatized to the surroundings, the rooms, and the areas that need cleaning. Give them enough time to do their work with precision.
Moreover, the time they will take to bring your home to a spic and span condition will usually depend on how well you have maintained your house all these years. For instance, if your tap has accumulated rust over several years, you cannot remove the stain or the rust overnight.
Prioritize your cleaning areas at home
Since you are hiring the services of domestic cleaners, and they have a limited time within which they can devote to your house; get items cleaned that require attention on an urgent basis.
Opt for “deep cleaning” before you ask them to proceed to the usual cleaning tasks. It will facilitate the cleaning process.
Prior to assigning the task, you have to make a note of what quality work you are looking from them. Convey the same message to them and your requirement and expectation. Once you finish this, allot time and the number of days you want them to be at your home.
Proper planning will undoubtedly simplify matters, and it will be convenient for both parties to work in tandem.

Toodles,
Of Goats and Greens says
I have an individual housekeeper (not part of a service) and I have her here about once every other week. For me, that’s optimal. We discussed at the outset what is typically needed… and plan ahead for deep cleanings say quarterly or tri-yearly. In my case, I do my OWN laundry, and my own kitchen clean up including counters and fridge – but she does the floors. She also hits the bathrooms, all floors, and periodically the windows. Dusting unless it involves detail is also hers. What is important is that we TALK WITH each other. She even provides suggestions to make my life easier since she’s not here weekly. If I have time, I’m also doing stuff along side her – the kitchen stuff I haven’t hire her on for… Anyhow, thanks for sharing with Fiesta Friday!
