Hello World! Welcome Friends! Well seriously, it has been a hot minute since I shared a house update. Even though I’ve been relatively quiet on social media, I have been a busy bee checking off projects from my home refresh to do list. There has been and will continue to be a whole lot of painting going on throughout the entire house. The Study is finished except for some shutters for the big arch window that I’m having made. Not plantation shutters; think more along the lines of English shutter panels. Once those are installed, I will pick a nice sunny day, take some pictures and show you all the goodness. You can check out the plans for the study HERE and and the accessories plan HERE.
While I’ve been waiting on the shutters to arrive, I started work on another space in the house. This time…the Laundry Room. I’ve decided to tackle a few of the not so fun rooms or difficult spaces so that they are getting done and I won’t have a bunch of “not so fun to work in” spaces that need to be completed after all of the larger rooms are finished. I’ve painted the laundry room cabinets, installed hardware, painted the two doors that lead into the laundry room, painted the ceiling, walls and trim as well as the long shelf. Greg installed a new light fixture replacing the icky fluorescent strip light that seems to plague laundry rooms across America. And, we bought a new washer and dryer set. The washer has come in and is installed, but the dryer won’t be here until the end of July. We had to purchase units that were on the smallish side since the space is definitely not huge. But, we make it work. Here is a before picture from the listing of the space. The previous owner’s washer and dryer set is too large for the space. The drawer closest to the dryer can’t even be opened. Look for that makeover around mid August…just in case the new dryer is delayed.
Okay, onto the space this post is all about. While I’ve been waiting on furniture and decor to come in for the Study and Laundry Room, I thought I would go ahead and paint a fun room. I picked the Dining Room since the ceiling is not too crazy high and I could get it finished relatively quickly. Here are a few shots of the space prior to the paint job. For those that are new to the website, the Dining Room location is just off the entry hall. The entry hall was one of the spaces that I completed when we first moved in. You can check out the Entry Hall Reveal, Entry Hall Resource Guide and the Entry Hall Little Update.
The front door (which is not shown) is to the right in the picture below. The lovely baby diarrhea colored door is a coat closet. And, as you can see, you can look into the kitchen from this vantage point in the picture below.
The molding in this house is insanely good and very well done in spite of the baby diarrhea paint color on the trim. In the photo above the front door is straight ahead and the study is to the right through a set of double doors.
It is a large space and can accommodate large furniture. Now, remember, this update is just paint, lighting and curtains hung. No new furniture just yet. I’m saving my money for something else right now! So, new furniture for the Dining Room will have to wait.
I had to turn on the lights, because it was such a dreary day when I took photos that not a lot of natural light was making it into the space. And, yes I painted the ceiling. The color is Salty Dog from Sherwin Williams. It’s the same color that was used in the Study and on the ceiling in the first section of the Entry Hall. The color on the walls and the outer tray section of the ceiling is First Star from Sherwin Williams in a matte finish. The trim is High Reflective White from Sherwin Williams in a Gloss finish.
This cabinet has been with me forever. It was in the Study before the new furniture arrived. I’m hoping to eventually get rid of it when I purchase new dining room furniture. The dining room set was my Mother’s from I believe 1979. It has seen quite a few family dinners and many, many game nights. The curtains came with me from our previous home.
One of the projects on the list will be to have all of the carpet replaced after all of the painting has been done.
Anyone that know me, knows I just can’t stay away from color. I still love my red pagoda mirror and blue door!
I thought I would share a real life picture as well. These are the freshly painted cabinet doors and drawers from the laundry room drying in the dining room. The color is Realist Beige from Sherwin Williams. The color looks amazing with the gold hardware!
Well, that’s it for the Dining Room for now. Hopefully, I will be able to share the Study space with you in a couple of weeks. The shutter panels are being made in Austin and we are trying to work out the schedule for a good time for an installer from Houston to get them in the space.

Why not paint the vent cover in dining room the same color as ceiling? I think you would like it better. Everything is coming along beautifully.

Thank you, Rhea! I’ll probably do that on down the road.

Looks so nice! I like how you reused your beautiful drapes and your paint choices. But, that lighting is the star of the show – perfection! I noticed your Ethan Allen Eastgate chest peeking around the corner. I had been considering it for my entry but commit. Is it the sitar finish?
thededicatedhouse@gmail.com says
Thanks Dena! I love the Eastgate chest. It is so well made and beautiful. The finish I have is Sarod. When I purchased the chest in 2019 they didn’t have the Sitar finish. I love both finishes. I would have a hard time choosing between the two. Have a great week!

Love your paint selections, Kathryn! Hard work!

Thank you so much, Rita! Hope your week is off to a great start.

I’ve always loved a contrasting ceiling and that chandy is a beauty! It looks so much like what was in our dining room but after we changed out the entry lighting it didn’t blend well so I repainted it silver and added it over our tub. It’s quite a showstopper there but it was already in the house so it didn’t cost me anything and I still liked it and wanted to be able to use it somewhere.
I hope your summer is going well and I understand the stepping back from social media. Good for you.
