Hello World! Welcome Friends! When it comes time to design your home or office space, much can be said about color. Some choose color according to trends, but colors are more than just something to catch your eye. The colors towards which you gravitate may actually be a reflection of your personality. Some even assert that the colors you favor may help you understand your strengths and weaknesses. Often, interior designers use the psychology of color as a way to create a certain mood in an office or living space. As a homeowner, you can work with your designer to use color as a form of self-expression as well. If you’re feeling a bit of fear about diving into the world of color, you can use interior design rendering programs that can offer you a sneak peek of the way your chosen color scheme will appear! Read on for more about color.
One interesting thing about colors is that they come in both cool and warm tones. Colors like orange and yellow tend to be warm; whereas colors like blue and green are considered cool tones. Warmer colors are associated with energy and excitement. Cooler colors are associated with feelings of calm and tranquility.
An important aspect of bringing color into a space in harmony. When working with a variety of colors, you’ll want to be sure they complement rather than clash with one another. This is where the color wheel comes into play. If you want to find a color that’s complimentary to another, look opposite your favorite color on the wheel. Complimentary colors have a harmonious contrast to one another. Pairing them creates quite a striking visual effect. If you’re hoping for something more low-key, consider an analogous color scheme. Analogous colors are those right next to your chosen color, on either side.
When choosing colors consider the intended mood of the room. In a room where you plan to host gatherings and entertain, bolder shades of warmer colors may be in order. In a room meant for rest and meditation, tints of calming, cooler tones would be the wiser choice.
Space should also be a consideration. In a large room you could choose a darker tone or shade for either the whole room or an accent wall without concern over the room feeling like it’s closing in on everyone. In a smaller room, a lighter tint is the way to go as it creates the optical illusion of a larger space.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about colors is their meanings and associations. Let’s cross the rainbow and explore some. Red is considered a power color. It’s also associated with passion, energy, and even danger. Orange is a happy color. It’s associated with optimism, excitement, warmth, and energy. Yellow is an attention-grabbing color; it stands out more than any of color. It’s associated with warmth and energy, which makes sense as it’s the color of the sun. Green is a calming color, evoking a similar feel to a walk in the park surrounded by trees. Green is associated with optimism, motivation, and even envy! Blue is another calming color. It’s associated with relaxation and reliability. Blue can also be associated with feelings of sadness. Purple is the color of royalty. It’s associated with wealth, wisdom, and luxury.
Choosing colors for your space can be an enjoyable experience. Colors can reflect your personality, set a mood, and even make a room feel more or less spacious! Every color has meaning and a variety of associations that can vary by culture and personal experience.
