Hello World! Welcome Friends! Most of us will move home at some point or another in our lives. For some of us, moving will be a regular occurrence, as we don’t want to settle in one place and enjoy constant change, or because circumstances simply mean that you need to move from one place to another to provide yourself with a good quality of life. However, for the majority of us, a house move is a less regular occurrence, and we can feel lost as to what to do to make a move successful and simple. Handled badly, a house move can be an extremely stressful experience that can feel overwhelming and burdening. Handled well, a house move should be much more straightforward and shouldn’t leave you in a negative state of mind. So, what can you do to make your house move as positively and simply as possible? The key is to make sure that you put plenty of thought into the property you choose to move into and to be organized with the move itself. Here are some tips and tricks that should help you along the way!
Choosing a New Home
Before you move, you’re going to have to find a home to move into. Now, the house hunting journey can feel like you have a lot of pressure on you, but unless you have a sudden and strict timeline to find somewhere new to live – for example, your landlord has decided to sell your living space and has only notified you close to the end of your contract – you should take some time about this to ensure that the space you move into is right for you. This can prevent you from having to move again just a few months or a year down the line, as you’re unhappy in your new property. There are countless things to take into consideration when choosing a new home. Here are just a few factors you might want to mull over to find the perfect property!
- Area – where would you like to live? The area you choose can impact all sorts of elements of your life. Do you want to live close to family and friends? Do you want to live close to work? Do you need to be in the catchment area for good schools?
- Size – how many rooms do you need? Will you need more in the near future?
- Garages and Driveways- do you need somewhere to park a car safely? Or two cars? A garage or driveway can help with this.
- Gardens – would you like a garden, so you have some outdoor space to use privately?
Moving
Once you’ve chosen your new home and you have a moving date, it’s time to consider the move itself. The following tips should help you to achieve this as best possible.
Start Packing Early
You don’t have to wait until a week or two before your moving date to start packing. If you have items that you don’t use regularly, start packing them up sooner rather than later. Packing gradually over time is much less stressful than trying to pack your whole life up in boxes over the course of a week or a few days.
Label Your Packing
If you’re using boxes to pack, make sure to label them so you know what’s inside. This will make unpacking a whole lot easier on the other end.
Use Professional Moving Services
You can hire a van and move all of your belongings yourself to save costs. But often, the much more sensible move is to use professional moving services. Professional moving companies have the skills, expertise, experience and tools required to move all of your belongings safely and effectively. They’re particularly good for large appliances, furniture and other heavy items. Using a moving service also means that your belongings will be protected and insured throughout the move.
Unpack Sensibly
You don’t have to unpack everything at once as soon as you get to your new home. Chances are, you’ll be tired, and it’s better to take things one step at a time. Make sure to unpack the items you use most frequently first, then move your way back to the items you rarely use.
These are just a few different suggestions that should help you on your moving journey. Sure, there’s always going to be some element of effort and stress involved. But you can take the steps outlined above to alleviate stress and make the move as positive as possible for yourself and anyone else involved!
