Hello World! Welcome Friends! There are a lot of reasons to want to have your own self-sufficient house. For one thing, it’s a fantastic means of ensuring that you are reducing your personal impact on the planet, and it has never been more important to do that than right now. But you’ll also find it is just very rewarding in other ways, and it’s a whole lifestyle change that so many people could get on board with. But how do you actually build a self-sufficient home? Here are a few of the major things to consider along the way.
Go Modular
One of the best and easiest ways to do this is to opt for a modular home. These days, you have plenty of choices available when it comes to modular homes, and you are going to find that you can create pretty much whatever size and shape of home you want in this way. Yet, it will be quite affordable, and so easy to put up that you can do it yourself – with maybe a few extra hands to help here and there. This is definitely something to think about for the basic framework of the home at least, as it can make everything a lot simpler and easier.
Source Water
A major issue is water. If you are going to be truly self-sufficient in your new home, you need to have your own water source. There are a few ways that you can do this. First of all, you should hunt for a natural spring. You might be surprised at how easy these are to come across. If you do find one, you need to test the water to see how much of it there is and whether it’s usable. Then you’ll have to use Davey Pumps to get the water to the house. Alternatively, you can catch rainwater and filter it – or use a local source like a lake, and filter it.
Get Power
When it comes to energy usage, you are going to want to consider using solar power. These days, solar power is so good, and it is really worth having it if you want to make sure that you are able to have all the energy you could possibly need. Installing some solar panels on your roof is the best way to do this, and you’ll find it gives you enough for your home. You might also consider wind power, if you live somewhere where this might work.
Grow Food
Finally, you will need to make space so you can grow your own food. As long as you have enough space, and you use it cleverly, you should be able to grow enough food to live on – and plenty of it too. You might even want to consider growing wheat and then milling it into flour, so you can make bread. All of this is perfectly possible, but of course it’s a whole lifestyle – are you sure it’s what you really want? If so, go for it.
