Hello World! I know you must have thought I have walked away from blogging! I turned 50 and fell off the internet into a super busy schedule and home discontent. Now, don’t worry, not the kind of home discontent where you say, “Forget it, I’m out of here!” No, the discontent of all of my upstairs rooms being in what I call dark, hideous, disgusting colors.
So, let me first thank you for all of the birthday wishes. Mr. Dedicated and Little Dedicated made turning 50 super easy. In fact, I’ve been looking forward to turning 50. I don’t feel like I act 50, more like 22 sometimes. Much to chagrin of my family! Thank you for all of the sweet emails from all of my sweet readers wishing me a happy birthday! You loves mean the world to me!
Now, to show you what has been keeping me super busy. First up, Little Dedicated portrayed Jackie Kennedy in her school’s wax museum. So, my mom and I designed an outfit just perfect for our former First Lady; and my mom worked hard on getting it ready and fitting it perfectly to Little Dedicated. She even made a pillbox hat.
Tweaking the suit and helping Little Dedicated memorize her speech kept us busy for a couple of weeks. I’m proud to say Little Dedicated did an amazing job portraying our classy former First Lady! I had to giggle because she kept telling me that she couldn’t wait to get the shoes off! She also said, “Being a lady is painful.” Oh, welcome to our world, little girl!
Now, for my household discontentment.
This room is currently Little Dedicated’s playroom, (however this picture is from the listing), but we have decided to combine my office and Mr. Dedicated’s office into this room. Yes, there is a dark maroon wall, gold walls, gold ceiling, almond trim, and almond doors. I had to brighten this picture from the listing so you can get an idea of what I’m dealing with. This room is going a light gray. Benjamin Moore’s Pebble Beach 1597 in an Eggshell sheen. And, of course, I’m painting the ceiling white. Below is a look at Benjamin Moore’s Pebble Beach.
All of the trim will be Benjamin Moore’s White Opulence OC-69 in a Semi-Gloss.
This is the room that is Little Dedicated’s room. All of these photos are from the listing when we purchased the house. Her room is going a soft cotton candy pink and white stripes above the chair rail and the cotton candy pink below. All of the trim and doors are almond. So, those are changing to white. However, I may paint all of the doors in the house black. I love black doors. The pink is Benjamin Moore’s Rose Garden 1353 in an eggshell and the white stripes are Benjamin Moore’s White Opulence OC-69 in an eggshell sheen. The trim is the White Opulence in a semi-gloss.
Isn’t this a lovely shade of pink? Pink perfection!
This is currently Mr. Dedicated’s office, but it will house Little Dedicated’s playroom once the painting and the shuffle has happened. Again, gold walls, gold ceiling, almond trim and doors. This room is also going gray with white trim and black doors. Oh, and ceiling white on the ceiling.
This room isn’t so bad, but it’s changing as well. Gray walls, white trim, as well as painting the cabinets white. I also want to change out the granite, paint the mirrors and the hardware on the doors. I like the faucets, so those will stay. The doors will go black. But, that will be the very last thing I do.
Here is the master bedroom. I’ve already painted the ceiling white; thank goodness! I painted the walls a light beige two days prior to moving in, but of course, this is going a light gray. All of the trim and doors are almond. The trim is being painted white, and the doors will be painted black.
Oh, the ceiling! Of course it’s going white. The walls are going the Pebble Beach Gray with the almond doors going black and the almond trim going the White Opulence color. Eventually, I want to rip out the vanity and get a new one that has some center storage. But, for now, I’ll paint the cabinets white and put some hardware on them as well as change out all of the light fixtures.
Last, but not least, this room is currently my office and will be turned into a guest bedroom. Yes, that is a deep navy blue on the ceiling. Same drill as the other rooms, white on the ceiling, Pebble Beach on the walls, White Opulence on the trim, and the doors going black. Of course all of the overhead light fixtures will be changed out eventually.
I don’t have a picture of the hall, but it is a dark gold. It is so dark. This will change to the gray and white as well. Eventually, I want to get plantation shutters throughout the upstairs. This will help to lighten up the spaces.
So, now you know what has been keeping my busy. I just couldn’t stand it any longer. With that said, I’m not shutting down the parties, but I’m trying to limit my time on the computer so I can focus on my tasks at hand. So, look for emails letting you know when the parties are live. I’m not going to make any promises. Some weeks there may be one party, or two parties, or I may get a wild hair and loads of time and get three parties live. So, be sure to look for an email from me letting you know when a party is live.

Thank you so much! We were fortunate that no water came into our house. It came halfway up the front yard and stopped at the boxwoods. There are so many people that have lost everything. Schools are closed for the third day today. I believe there were 17 schools in the district that had water damage. We don’t think Little Dedicated’s school was damaged, but some of the staff had damage to their homes. I’m betting that school won’t reopen until next week. So, with Little Dedicated home, the painting time has been limited. I’m thinking I might have the new office (which used to be the playroom) finished sometime this weekend. I understand how a child and home remodeling can take up your time. I am trying to get some rooms painted in our house too, and cleanup and prep alone can take forever! Enjoy your super busy life!
Thank you, Annie! It’s definitely a juggling act. I try to only work on house projects when she is in school. But, sometimes it just doesn’t work out. To be honest, I’m taking it one wall at a time. The plan is to prime one wall and the ceiling section over that particular wall as well as the trim. By the time I finish priming the trim, the wall is dry and ready for another coat of prime. Once all three sections have been primed a second time, I put the appropriate color on each section and then I stand back and admire at least one completed wall!! I don’t have the space to completely empty a room of all of its furniture while I paint, so I have to take it one wall at a time. I figure inch by inch its a cinch! I hope you share your spruced up rooms with us!!

Love the outfit! You have so much work ahead of you! Are you doing it all yourself? I can’t imagine having that much to do. It is going on 2 months for one room in my house, but we are stripping wallpaper that has been on since the 1960’s!! Looking forward to seeing your progress.
I had the same maroon wall in my dining room before I repainted it “Pordic white” and repainting has changed the light in the room trmendously. I guess you’ll love your room once it’s painted!
