Hello World! Welcome Friends! In the last two decades or so, there has been an increase in the use of the PEX Piping System. This trend has some good reasoning behind it. PEX Pipes have proved to be useful for commercial and residential structures. Learn more here.
If you’re interested in incorporating this tubing system in your property, or you are a contractor thinking of working with it, it might be a good idea to get yourself properly informed. Other than learning how it works, naturally, you want to know how exactly you can benefit from the PEX Pipe. I’ll try to give you some useful insight.
What is the Pre-Insulated PEX Piping System?
These systems typically consist of one or two PEX service pipes installed either in potable-water or heating and cooling applications. These are surrounded by insulation and covered in a case or a jacket. Due to its wide range of application and efficiency, many people are deciding to switch from other, more rigid constructions, to this fairly new one.
Although the PEX Piping Systems have not yet conquered the market when it comes to heating, cooling and domestic hot-water distribution, chances are that they will. Sure, steel and copper are still dominant. But, studies have shown that the PEX is significantly increasing in popularity.

We’ve learned how the tubes work and how applicable they are today. So, there remains only one question. What exactly do these tubes have to offer? Hopefully, we can make this clear as well, by describing some of its benefits.
Installation Process
As opposed to the widespread structures, this tubing system is of significantly lighter weight. This allows contractors to perform a quick and effective installation. The simplicity of maneuvering the tubes makes their job easier while also leaves less impact on the body.
In addition to this, they are available in continuous coils, meaning that they can curve around obstacles and existing structures. This also allows for fewer underground connections, eliminating the risk of potential leaks. Another thing facilitating the installation process is the fact that the pipe is already insulated.
Thermal and Elastic Memory
Experience has shown that a uniform crosslinking in the process of manufacturing an insulated PEX pipe increases its flexibility, as well as thermal and elastic memory. Thermal memory refers to its ability to be repaired, while elastic memory is connected to its ability to expand. The pipe can be repaired with a controlled heat source and it is known to expand up to three times its diameter and then shrink to its original size.
These two features contribute to the durability of the structure. They make it resistant to harsh weather environments, while also allowing for easy reparation, if necessary. We must admit that this is an important factor to take into consideration when thinking of heating.
Bonded and Slip Systems
With polyurethane foam serving as glue in the bonded option, the piping becomes more rigid. The pipe, the insulation and the casing are all attached to one another and united. And detaching the foam is really, and I mean really, difficult.
On the other hand, the slip system means that the service pipe is covered by multi-layer polyethylene and then by a corrugated HDPE jacket. This way, the different layers can move independently from one another, which further increases flexibility. While both are definitely more flexible than a metal one, the slip system is regarded as the more elastic and installer-friendly option.
